Shoot the Head or Legs
Cultists (Zealots), similar to the Ganados (Villagers), are weak against shots to the head and legs. You can kill them quickly with a few headshots or immobilize them by hitting their legs and going for a melee attack.
Hit the Exposed Plaga
Some Cultists (Zealots) don't hide the parasite on their body and use it to attack you. You can shoot it until they die, but be careful, as it will fight back with its long reach and fast worm-like head. A shot from the head using a Shotgun at close-range can quickly kill this type of Cultist (Zealot).
You can also use Flash Grenade to take them out quickly once their Plaga is exposed.
Avoid Shooting the Helmet
There will be Cultists that are wearing helmet in the game. You can save more ammo if you go for their other body part, as it will take several shots to remove their helmet and kill them.
Go for a Stealth Kill
You can eliminate an unaware Cultist (Zealot) with a stealth kill. Go behind its back while crouching to avoid getting detected and messing up the stealth kill attempt. It's best to use when there are only a few Cultists (Zealots) in the area. You can do this as well once they get Ashley.
You can also save some ammo and other resources by using this method!
Shoot the Shield with a Shotgun or Rifle
There are also some Cultists (Zealots) that are holding shields to protect their body. You can easily destroy their shields with a single shot from a Shotgun. You can also hit them with a Rifle if you have some ammo to spare, as it can pierce through their shields.
A Handgun with penetrating ability, like the Punisher, can also go through their shields, so it's best to equip it as well!
Kill the Zealot (Staff) Immediately
There is an elite type of Cultist wearing a red robe, named Zealot (Staff), which can forcefully pull out the Plaga on the regular Cultists in the game. It also has an additional skill where it causes the screen to appear a bit blurry, like the feeling of being concussed.
Kill it immediately to lessen the threat of the enemies in the area. It will also try to run away from you, so being fast is the key here!
