Resident Evil 4 Remake - Can You Kill the Merchant

Can You Kill the Merchant?

You Can't Kill the Merchant

You can't kill the Merchant with guns in the Resident Evil 4 Remake. Trying to aim your gun toward the Merchant will make Leon automatically point it downward, and the game will also prevent you from pressing the Shoot button.

Explosives Stagger the Merchant

Using explosives, including Rocket Launchers and Heavy Grenades, will only stagger the Merchant. He will be completely fine after getting hit and will still allow you to use his services afterward.

Throwing Eggs Annoys the Merchant

You can hit the Merchant by throwing eggs at him, but this will only annoy him. He will still offer his services after you hit him with an egg.

Difference from the Original Game

You Could Originally Kill the Merchant

In the original Resident Evil 4 (2005), you could kill the Merchant using guns and explosives. Killing the Merchant stops him from spawning at that location for the rest of the game, preventing you from purchasing new weapons, items, and upgrades in that section. The only way to respawn a dead Merchant was to reload a prior save or checkpoint before you killed him.
