Grab the W-870 in the Village

Resident Evil 4 Remake - W-870 Location
Before reaching your first Merchant, you can already get a powerful close-range gun early by grabbing the W-870 in the Village during Chapter 1. This shotgun excels at dealing with large targets up-close and fending off groups of enemies that try to surround you.

Buy the SR M1903 at the First Merchant

We recommend picking up the SR M1903 when you visit the Merchant for the first time past the Abandoned Factory in Chapter 2. Buying this weapon from him at this point gets you the Scope for free, giving you a potent early-game long-range gun with excellent accuracy and massive weak point damage.

Only Get the Bolt Thrower With Excess Pesetas

The Bolt Thrower is another gun you can purchase at the first Merchant you meet, but we only recommend buying it if you have plenty of Pesetas to spare.

While it's a decent investment, being a stealthy ranged option with reusable ammo, the Bolt Thrower's initial damage isn't very high. In addition, you have to purchase the Bolts ammo recipe separately, so you may want to buy the weapon later when you have more Pesetas.

Save the Punisher For Later

The Punisher is a pistol you can buy at the first Merchant for 5 Spinels, but we suggest putting off buying it early. The starter SG-09 R pistol is strong and versatile enough to deal with most early threats, and you may want to save up your Spinels for more valuable items later on.
