How to Get Combat Knife

Unlocked By Default

Combat Knife is a starting weapon in the game. You can use it when your whole inventory unlocks after your first fight with the Ganado, during the cutscene in the Hunter's Lodge.

Is the Combat Knife Worth It?

Early to Mid Game Companion

The Combat Knife may be the starting knife in the game, but it is extremely useful until you get the Fighting Knife from Krauser in the later chapters. Upgrading the Combat Knife is a must to upgrade its durability for multiple uses when parrying and stabbing enemies.

How to Use Combat Knife

Be Mindful of Knives' Durability

All Knives have durability and the Combat Knife isn't an exception. Simply swinging them on a breakable object can chip away their durability.

Don't worry, as you can still repair knives once they've broke at the Merchant.

Knife Durability: Do Knives Break?

Parry Attacks

The Combat Knife can parry different attacks, including thrown weapons and straight-out punches. However, parrying attacks consumes durability, so try not to do it all the time and dodge by running or crouching when you have the option.

Also, parrying stronger attacks, like the Chainsaw Man's chainsaw, can quickly destroy the Combat Knife, so try to avoid fighting those enemies head-on!

How to Parry Attacks

Break Free from a Grapple

You can immediately escape a hold or a grapple with your Combat Knife by pressing the Melee Button quickly. However, it is not possible to do if someone grabbed you from behind. You can press the Interact Button continuously instead to break free quickly.

Take note that you won't be able to do this once you're knife is broken!

Sneak Attack for an Instant Kill

Since the Combat Knife has a decent durability, you can use it to perform sneak attacks on several enemies before it breaks. Successfully doing a sneak attack will lead to an instant kill, which will save you some ammo and reduce the risk of getting damaged.
