All Resident Evil 4 Remake New Features

Knife Parry and Durability System

Newly Added Parry Resident Evil 4 Remake
A new knife Parry mechanic was added to the game. You can now parry incoming projectiles, attacks, and immediately break free with your knife when grabbed. This not only makes combat more fluid but also gives the game a more modern feel.

Gems For Trading

Rare Gem Trade Resident Evil 4 Remake
In addition to the current items used as currency, you can now trade gems collected on your journey for items!

Crafting

Crafting Resident Evil 4 Remake
Instead of relying solely on the Merchant, players can now gather and craft their own supplies to provide themselves with the tools they need!

Side Quests

Fetch Quests? Say no more. The Resident Evil 4 Remake now has side quests that come in the form of requests you encounter as blue parchments of paper found around the map. Fulfilling these requests will allow you to receive items!

Bolt Thrower

The Bolt Thrower is a new weapon for Leon that shoots ammunition like arrows and mines that explode to hit multiple enemies at once. This is similar to Ada Wong's Bow Gun which was present in Separate Ways in the original Resident Evil 4 (2005).

In addition, the arrows that are used in the Bolt Thrower may be picked up again to use on other enemies.

Attache Case and Charms

While the Attache Case isn't new, the new colors and charms are! These colors and charms give you extra benefits like increased drop rates to help you throughout your journey.

Crouching to Sneak

Sneak
Leon now has the ability to crouch; aside from being usable to get under objects, it also gives Leon the ability to sneak, reducing the enemy's ability to detect him.

This is either useful to sneak past enemies to save ammunition, or do a sneak attack behind an enemy to kill them quietly.

Plus 1 Ammo Mechanic

In the Remake, reloading certain guns, including when they're fully loaded, can add a Plus 1 to their current ammo count. This new mechanic allows these weapons to have an extra shot in their magazine, but it also takes one additional bullet from your currently-held ammo.

What Does the Plus 1 Mean?

The knife used to be unbreakable, but in the RE4 Remake, it can now be broken! A durability bar has been added to show players just how much use they can get out of their knife.

The durability decrease depends on the action; some actions cause the knife to break faster. When the knife loses all durability, it breaks and you'll have to repair it with the Merchant.

Typewriters Have Storage

Not only can you save your game at a Typewriter, you can now use the cache to store additional items outside of your inventory!

Motorboat Can Be Driven

In the original game, the motorboat had limited use or prompted a loading screen to traverse between areas. In the remake, the motorboat can be used to explore other areas and can be freely driven by the player!
