Is the Punisher Worth It?

Not Worth it in the Village

In the Village section of the story, the Punisher isn't all that great, because you have access to more powerful and, most importantly, free handguns, namely the Red9 and default SG-09 R.

The only unique advantages the Punisher can provide in this section is having great accuracy and the ability to penetrate through and hit multiple enemies in mobs.

Best Handgun and Pistol

Worth it in the Castle

Where the Punisher does shine, though, is the Castle section of the game, due to its penetration power perk. In the castle, you'll be mobbed by more enemies than in the Village and you'll encounter enemies holding medieval riot shields. The Punisher deals away with these enemies better than any Handgun, even the ones with higher power than it.

Additionally, you'll encounter Zealots that fire flaming arrows at you from long-range. If you find yourself running low on rifle ammo, the Punisher's great accuracy allows you to quickly lock sights onto these Zealots and take them out.

How to Use Punisher

Use at Close to Mid-Range Encounters

RE4 Remake - Handgun Mid-Range
Punisher is a good weapon to use at close to mid-range distances because of its accuracy and power. It's also better to use on normal or weaker mobs instead of your better guns, as it's easy to get and craft its ammo.

Stun Enemies and Go for a Melee Attack

RE4 Remake - Melee Attack After SG-09 R Shot
Punisher also has the power to stun an enemy for a short time, allowing you to a follow-up melee attack for extra damage while saving up some ammo. However, do note that it might take a while or not work even on stronger enemies.
