"An aberrant sorcery, discovered by exiled criminals. Theirs are the sorceries most reviled by the academy. Wounds the caster with thorns of sin, creating a spiral of bloodthorns. This sorcery can be cast repeatedly, up to three times. The guilty, their eye gouged by thorns, lived in eternal darkness. There, they discovered the blood star." |
Summon thorns of blood that damage and causes the Bleed to the enemies surrounding the caster. Casting this will require the caster to use a bit of their HP and FP and will suffer a slight increase in their bleed gauge as a rebound effect from the spell.

Briars of Sin can be obtained by defeating an enemy wielding a torch-like spear on the eastern side of Liurnia of the Lakes. You can get there by traveling to Eastern Tableland site of grace located south of the Artist's Shack.
From there, travel southwest, past the fire monk camp, and you should be able to see the enemy near a group of fire slugs.
This spell is effective when surrounded by enemies since it casts an area of effect that damages anyone around the caster. You can spam this spell more with its decreased recovery time and increased blood loss effect on enemies according to 1.04 patch.
Don't use this spell too much as every time you do, it drains you of your health and builds up the player's blood loss gauge, which can kill you if it becomes filled.
