Fastest Way to Farm Heart Scales
Fish for Luvdisc in Route 224
 |
After unlocking the National Dex, you can encounter wild Luvdiscs on Route 224. There, you can use the Super Rod to battle Luvdiscs which has a chance of holding a Heart Scale.
Battling wild Luvdiscs to get Heart Scales is faster than trying to unearth them at the Grand Underground, as you can constantly encounter the Pokemon compared to digging at walls below and hoping it contains the item.

Increase Chances by using a Pokemon with Super Luck
We recommend bringing a Pokemon such as Absol, with the Super Luck Ability which increases the chance for Wild Pokemon to have a held item. Absol can also learn the move Thief to take the item from the opponent without the need of catching it. Just make sure Absol isn't holding any items beforehand.
Get Heart Scale from Luvdisc with Thief or Covet
You can also use Thief or Covet on the wild Luvdisc to get their held Heart Scale which saves you time (and Poke Balls) as you wouldn't need to catch them any more!
Grand Underground
Heart Scale is obtainable by digging in the Grand Underground. Use your pickaxe first to confirm the item before completely digging it out with your sledgehammer. The chances of getting them is relatively low, so be patient when it comes to digging!

The Heart Scale is used as a currency to make a Pokemon remember a move by trading it to the Move Reminder located in Pastoria City.
After giving the Move Reminder 10 Heart Scales, he will reward your loyalty by offering to help your Pokemon remember moves for free!
