Focusing on Strength and Dexterity is the best option, as this build has a lot of Heavy attack and Critical damage modifiers.

Focus on leveling Culling Arc, Vicious Fury, and Javelin Surge first. Spear skills will do the bulk of the damage, so maximize damage-dealing skill levels first.
Grab the specializations that cause targets to ignite as quickly as possible, as they are very valuable in the leveling phase as they tear through mobs rather quickly.
Despite their potency, the spear's passives rely on multiple hits in order to activate. They become more beneficial later on when multiple sources of attack speed are attained through gear.
Key passives such as Assassin's Instincts, Wrathful Edge, and Retaliatory Strike can be used in normal play without any setup, so they should be prioritized before anything else.

Despite the obvious downside of the weapon's unique ability, which is effectively cut in half at night, Kowazan's Twilight Daggers still pack quite a punch, offering plenty of Dexterity and Critical Strike chance.

As a melee DPS, the Imperator set is one of the best item sets for increasing DPS, with Heavy Attack being one of the most useful traits in the game for increasing damage dealt.
Two pieces of the Shadow Harvester set are taken for the mask and gloves because of the stats they provide, as well as a good amount of Dexterity.
The rest of the armor is used to reach the important breakpoints of Strength, Dexterity, and Perception, while increasing DPS and buff duration whenever possible.

The advent of runes made it possible to achieve multiple stat breakpoints in builds that were unattainable prior to their release.
The rune synergies were chosen to hit the stat breakpoints, while the runes that benefited the build were chosen to provide a mix of survivability, damage, and better mana management.

Ultimate Power is the most important passive to get, as it increases attack speed by a significant amount.
The rest of the points go into the Destroy tree, for even more damage, as Will of Annihilation increases skill damage by a flat amount.
For the daggers, getting the Assassination tree will be a priority, as Maddening Excitement also increases attack speed, which increases the build's ability to execute more skills in a shorter amount of time.
The rest go into the Poison tree, since the cooldown reduction of Shrewd Judgment is quite good.

Before approaching targets, it's best to activate buffs in this order. Start with Lightning Infusion first, as it has the longest duration.

Flaming Arc Stabs with a spear 2 times. Each attack deals 120% of Base Damage + 11. On Critical Hit, applies Weaken:Ignite. At 5 ignite stacks, damage increases by 20%. Damage increases by 55% against mosters. Ability to use Spiral Slash afterwards.

Thunderclouds Bombing Deal 180% of Base Damage + 37 damage, and removes the target's Thunderclouds effect. The damage is amplified by 15% against monsters. When the target's remaining Health is 50% or less, Critical Hit Chance increases by 600. If the target is affected by Weaken: Thunderclouds, they take 36% + 7 Bonus Damage and the damage is boosted by 100% per stack. Critical Damage increases by 20%.

Frenzied Sword Dance A special growth skill that can only be grown with Precious Training Books: Omnipotence. Approach the target and deal 160% + 18 of the basic damage. Attack 7 times in quick succession. The 7 attacks will be spread out amongst all valid targets within 6m.

Close the gap with Storm Blitz, then mark a single target with Deadly Stigma. Use Explosive Fury to build up Ember Stacks and use Javelin Inferno to expend the stacks.
Next, use Phoenix Barrage, followed by two uses of Flaming Arc. The target should have enough Thundercloud stacks, so use Thunderclouds Bombing before finishing the rotation with Frenzied Sword Dance.
This rotation is devastating on clustered targets. Coordinate with the tank and allow them to draw in as many mobs as possible before executing the rotation.
