How to Block and Parry

Throne and Liberty How to Block and Parry

You can block and parry in Throne and Liberty (TL) combat. Read on to learn how to defend yourself against attacks, how to use counterattacks, and how to dodge!

How to Block and Parry

Watch Out for Fury Attacks

When a circular, purple indicator appears on an enemy, they are preparing to do a Fury Attack. Fury Attacks are more powerful than regular attacks.

Use Defense Skill Against Fury Attacks

When you see a Fury Attack incoming, you can press the Q key to use your Defense Skill to either defend or counter it, depending on how you time it.

Defense Timing

When you use your Defense Skill before the outer purple ring reaches the inner purple orb, you will successfully defend against the Fury Attack, signified by a gold Defense text appearing.

Perfect Defense Timing

When you use your Defense Skill just as the outer purple ring reaches the inner purple orb, you will have done a Perfect defense, signified by a purple Perfect text appearing.

Note: Different Defense Skills will each have different effects when performing a Defense or a Perfect defense. Like how the Shield Survival Technique on the Sword and Shield has the ability to heal upon successful defense, and how the Iron Point Parry on the Greatsword can parry the Fury Attack with boosted damage upon successful defense.

Use Defense Skill While Moving to Dodge

Throne and Liberty Dodge

While moving in any direction, press the Q key to use the Defense Skill while moving, allowing you to dodge incoming attacks. This does not function the same as a block or parry, but it does keep you mobile.

Dodging Uses Up Stamina

Certain actions and skills use up stamina, such as dodging. You are not able to use stamina-consuming skills when your stamina bar is below the bar line, as well as your Defense Skill, even if you are stationary.

Refill Your Stamina

When you have depleted your stamina below the bar, it will gradually fill back up again. A green shield icon will appear to indicate that you have gained enough stamina to use your Defense Skill again.

Remember to Equip Defense Skills

In the Skills menu, you can find all your Weapon skills, including your equipped weapons' Defense Skills. Always make sure to have one equipped in the slot because they are removable. Having no Defense Skill equipped in combat will make you unable to block or parry against Fury Attacks.
