Arena Explained

Mechanics for Arena

Matchmaking

There are two main modes of Arena PvP. Normal and Ranked.

Normal Mode

In Normal Mode, players' matches are not determined by rank and they can queue up with any team size.

Ranked Mode

For Ranked Mode, players can join the queue via Individual Match or Team Match. In Ranked Mode, the system will always try to match players who are closer in rank.

In Individual Match, participants are divided into two teams of three. All entrants are players who queued alone.

In Ranked Team Matches, players would have to queue up in teams of three to participate and would receive a separate ranking from individual matches.

Friendly Matches

Friendly matches are played by inviting players to participate in Arena PvP in teams of three. There are no rank restrictions for friendly matches, but there are no rewards. Friendly matches are best used for practice or sparring.

Scoring System

Throne and Liberty - Scoring System

The goal in Arena is to score 200 points or have the highest score before the match ends. Players earn points by killing other players on the opposing team and collecting their battlefield tokens.

Player in the arena are grouped in teams of three. Each player carries at least one token. They can keep any tokens they collect as long as they are alive.

Every 30 seconds, the total number of battleground tokens for each team will be tallied and added to the team score.

Killing players with large amounts of tokens also earns extra points. Keep this in mind, as calculated deaths can be beneficial to replenish Health and Mana, as well as to mitigate risk.

Overwhelming Victory

If there is a difference of 12 or more tokens for three consecutive scoring periods, the game is concluded and the team with the token advantage automatically wins.

Arena Buffs

Buffs in Arena

Enchant Attack Power Increases Damage Dealt
Shield Provides Survivability
Invisibility Provides Invisibility for a Short Duration

After some time has passed, players will be able to choose one of three buffs available upon respawn before entering the battleground.

Each player can only have one buff, but there are no restrictions on the buffs themselves, so each party member can choose the buffs they want.

Weapon Restrictions

Weapon Count Limit

Throne and Liberty - Greatsword Greatsword 2
Throne and Liberty - Longbow Longbow 2
Throne and Liberty - Crossbows Crossbows 2
Throne and Liberty - Wand Wand 1

Each team would have a limit on the number of weapons they could bring. As a general rule, each team can only have one Sword and Shield user and one Wand user, and the rest can only have 2 users of the same weapon.

It would be wise for prebuilt teams to discuss preferred classes to match each other's play styles before signing up for a match, and to avoid any overlap.

Other Restrictions

Guardians and Restoration Crystals cannot be used in Arena. Keep this in mind when engaging opponents, as are not able to rely on guardians that are essential for burst windows or survival.

Players can use dash and glide morphs, but cannot use shapeshift.

Arena Tips

Learn the Matchup

At the start of the match, players can see what weapons the opposing team is carrying. By studying the most common PvP skills for weapon types, players can anticipate what the opponent will do and try to counter it.

For example, Seekers function very differently from Liberators. Even though they both have Longbows, their approach to combat can be quite different, and they do not necessarily take the same longbow skills.

This would help prioritize targets and figure out what the windows of opportunity are for each class, so players can see what the win conditions are for each engagement.

This would help players know which targets to prioritize. Once they do that, they can figure out the best time to take down a player and what the win conditions are for each engagement.

All Classes

Prepare a Build for PvP

Not all skills have the same impact in PvP and PvE. Some skills are more effective in one than the other, with some overlap in between.

In order to better deal with opponents in PvP, it is highly recommended to have skills and equipment tuned for PvP for the best results.
