Throne and Liberty (TL)

Is it Pay-to-Win?

Throne and Liberty - Is it Pay-to-Win top

Throne and Liberty offers several microtransactions, but does not sell gameplay advantages that make it pay-to-win. Read on to learn more about how TL avoids being pay-to-win, and about what can be purchased with premium currency.

Is Throne and Liberty Pay-to-Win?

TL Does Not Monetize Major Upgrades and Buffs

Throne and Liberty - Weapon Cosmetic Shop item

Throne and Liberty offers several microtransaction options in the Special Shop, and even the Auction House uses Lucent as its main currency. However, TL is not pay-to-win, as it does not sell items like weapons or permanent stat buffs that would give unfair advantages to premium players in direct PvP or PvE combat.

Even the Auction House, where players sell Equipment and Trait Extracts, has limitations on what can be sold, and relies on actual gameplay from players to have stock or item listings to auction off.

Microtransaction Guide

Premium Currency Lucent Can Be Earned by F2P Methods

Throne and Liberty - Lucent

Lucent is the main Premium currency in TL, which is used to buy gear from the Auction House and most items in the Special Shop. While it can be purchased with real money, Lucent can still be earned by F2P methods such as selling gear in the Auction House and earning rewards in PvP modes.

What Can Be Bought?

Cosmetics

Throne and Liberty - Character Cosmetic Shop items

The Special Shop offers various cosmetic items for your character, armor, weapons, and Morphs that provide purely appearance-based changes without providing any buffs or stat changes.

Amitoi

Throne and Liberty - Shop Amitoi

Amitoi can be purchased from the Special Shop as additions to your collection. While having more Amitoi of various types can be advantageous for bonus materials from specific Regions in Amitoi Expeditions, they otherwise do not grant any unique advantages in fights.

Growth Materials via Premium Pass Progress

Throne and Liberty - Dragon

If you purchase the Premium Leveling or Battle Passes, you gain access to additional rewards such as extra Growthstones for leveling up and completing missions to raise the Pass levels. These don't buff you outright, but they do make character-building faster by reducing your grind.

Consumables

Throne and Liberty - Consumables Shop items

Consumables provide temporary buffs to your character and are also easily craftable by foraging for ingredients in the open world. So, purchasing Shop consumables won't provide any unique effects or buffs compared to what can be crafted in-game.

Solisium's Blessing

Solisium's Blessing is a unique shop item only available for USD 8 with various effects including making features like Sundries Shops and Crafting more immediately accessible during exploration, increasing maximum active Contracts, making exclusive Special Shop items available, and more.

The Blessing's benefits are for convenience rather than outright upgrades or buffs, so it also shouldn't be considered a P2W feature.

Auction House Items

The Auction House sells other players' base level Equipment of various rarities and Trait Extracts for Lucent. However, since only base-level equipment is sold, players would still have to properly grind the game to raise them properly, rather than buying them as immediate power boosts.

Furthermore, both the kinds of Equipment and Extracts you find in the Auction Shop and Lucent itself are grindable or earnable through in-game content, even for pure F2P players. So, the Auction House isn't an actual necessity to reach the peak of your character's power.
