Instead of classes, Throne and Liberty's character-building system is based on weapon loadouts. Continue reading to learn more about the weapon system replacing classes and about the weapons and their closest corresponding MMO classes.
List of Contents
Unlike other MMOs that require you to pick a class to lock in your role and skillset, Throne and Liberty introduces a dual-wield Weapon system wherein you always equip two weapons at a time: a main hand and an off-hand.
The types of weapons you equip determine the Active and Passive Skills your character will have, which vary in purpose like pure damage, CC, healing, or more.
Equipping weapons is as simple as swapping them in your Character Info page, meaning you can freely change your weapons and skills depending on the situation. You aren't restricted to using specific weapon types per character.
While the weapon system is flexible, sticking to a specific loadout is a good idea to improve your combat potential, as using a weapon for prolonged periods of time will accumulate Weapon Mastery.
Mastering a weapon type will grant you additional effects that are useful in combat as long as you have that weapon type equipped.
Don't fret over the lack of a class system, as each weapon's Skills are geared toward specific playstyles reminiscent of typical MMO classes. To start, the most approachable or familiar weapons for melee players in the roles of knights, warriors, and tanks would be the Greatsword and Sword and Shield.
The Greatsword is the most balanced playstyle due to its good AoE melee damage and inherently high health pool. At the same time, the Sword and Shield is geared more towards defense and control through the protection of allies, as well as the taunting and pushing or pulling of enemies.
Players that like to stay mobile and normally play as the rogue class will find the Dagger and Crossbow good fits in their loadout.
Both weapons specialize in hit-and-run tactics, with the Dagger having the advantage of stealth to inflict both poison and burst damage. At the same time, the Crossbow can continuously attack enemies from a safe range while Marking them to further increase the damage taken.
Rangers and other players that prefer to stay in the back while sniping at the enemy will likely default to using the Long Bow, as it has the longest range out of the current weapon types.
It directly benefits at longer range with increased damage, and has some skills that can immobilize enemies to keep them at a safe distance.
Mage and spellcaster-type players will most likely find themselves using either the Staff or Wand and Tome. The Staff is the more straightforward option for direct magic damage and AoE attacks, while the Wand and Tome specialize in Curses and damage-over-time spells.
Healers and support players will feel accustomed to using the Wand and Tome and even the Long Bow. The Wand's Curses and Skills are a mix of party heals and enemy debuffs that benefit both the survivability and damage output of your party.
The Long Bow, aside from its direct damage Skills, also has a selection of heals, mana regen, and debuffing skills via Mark that will keep the party alive and make enemies more susceptible to damage.
