How to Get Makeshift Vault Key
Obtain from Ancient Battleground Fortress

In the north of Checkpoint Rest Town lies a derelict fortress where you can obtain the Makeshift Vault Key, which opens the Vernworth Castle Vault.
The key itself is found in a chest in the unlocked room on the second floor of the fortress located at the top of the hill in the Ancient Battleground.

The Tolled to Rest side quest can be accepted to reach the very room where the key is located as part of the quest. Oskar, the NPC that provides this quest can be located in the nearby path east of the Ancient Battleground.
In this quest, Tolled to Rest, Oskar will ask you to assist him in reaching the cenotaph in the fortress up the hill. In the room where you assist Oskar, you would see the chest containing the Makeshift Vault Key.

The Makeshift Vault Key opens the Vernworth Castle Vault. This vault is located in the castle's basement and can be accessed through a flight of stairs beside Vernworth Castle Kitchen, east of the castle grounds.
Vernworth Castle Vault Loot
Gold and Equipment
The Vernworth Cast Vault contains a variety of loot, including 20,000 G, a Decayed Medusa Head, Wyrmhunter's Cloak, a Ring of Reassurance, and the Daughter of the Evening shield.
Decayed Medusa Head
This Decayed Medusa Head has rid of all its power. This item has long lost its use and can be sold for 1,500 G.
Myrmhunter's Cloak
The Wyrmhunter's Cloak has 3% resistance to Fire and Lightning elements and the Torched debilitation. It is, however, quite heavy.
Ring of Reassurance
The Ring of Reassurance grants pawns you revive in battle to have increased Defense for a time. This ring may prove helpful under challenging fights against where your less tanky pawns are usually focused on enemy attacks.
Daughter of Evening
The Daughter of the Evening shield is a great early-game shield with 80 base strength and 290 base knockdown strength.
