This is a full The Stolen Throne walkthrough for Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2). Learn how to attend The Stolen Throne masquerade hall, where to find a formal raiment, and what will happen if the Stolen Throne hidden door won't open!

How to Complete The Stolen Throne

  1. Proceed to the Masquerade Hall Location
  2. Obtain a Formal Raiment or Courtly Attire
  3. Approach the False Sovran
  4. Find the Hidden Passage
  5. Return to Captain Brant

Masquerade Hall Location

Head to the Masquerade Hall in Vernworth Castle. If you're not wearing a formal raiment (Courtly Tunic and Courtly Breeches), you'll be prevented from entering upon arriving at the door.

However, you can still choose to go through the doors—you'll just be attacked by guards and sent to jail if you're defeated. If you're attacked by guards, just run away from Vernworth Castle and rest at an Inn to let the guards cool off.

Where to Find Formal Raiment and Courtly Attire

(Complete The Ornate Box quest)

To enter, you'll need courtly attire, i.e. Courtly Tunic, Courtly Breeches, and the Eventide Mask Brant gives you at the start of the quest.

There are multiple ways to obtain this clothing. The one we recommend is the one located at the Guest Chambers of Vernworth Castle 2F (nearest to the masquerade hall), as this is fairly easy to get to.

Approach the False Sovran

Dragon

With all three pieces of courtly attire equipped, head to Vernworth Castle. The masquerade party takes place every 2 nights, so if it's nighttime and there's no masquerade ball, simply pass the time in the inn

Upon arriving at the hall, a short cutscene will play once you enter the hall, where you'll see the False Sovran exiting the hall through a hidden passage.

Find the Hidden Passage

Go to the outer ring of the masquerade hall and head towards the back, northeastern wall. You'll see people entering through a hidden passage at the above spot. Follow the path outside until you reach a balcony leading to the Rose Chateau Borderlie.

Enter the balcony for a cutscene where Wilhelmina will catch you but help you hide from the guards chasing after you. Watch all the cutscenes before finishing this sequence of the quest.

What Happens if Hidden Door Won't Open?

If enough time passes and the sun starts to rise, you can't enter the hidden passage anymore, even if you've already opened it. You'll have to retry again in 2 days.

Return to Captain Brant

Make your way back to the Stardrop Inn at night and speak with Captain Brant. Choose the Tell me of the masquerade dialogue option for a cutscene that completes the quest.

The Stolen Throne Tips and Strategies

Skip the Masquerade by Completing An Unsettling Encounter

You can skip the part where you have to go to the masquerade by completing An Unsettling Encounter before hand. If you do so, you'll only need to visit Wilhelmina in the Rose Chateau Bolderie, and the quest will pick up where you'll spy on some interesting individuals.

How to Escape the Gaol if Caught

If you fail to blend with the nobles during the masquerade, you may end up getting caught by the guards and locked up in the Castle Gaol.

You'll have to wait until you're let out, which means you'll miss your chance to attend the masquerade and will possibly have to wait 2 days to retry.

Use the Gaol Key Obtained from Brant

If you have started The Caged Magistrate main quest but haven't returned the Gaol Key to Captain Brant, you can use the key to free yourself from the Castle Gaol.

You can then simply retrieve your confiscated equipment and try infiltrating the masquerade in 2 days. We recommended getting a forgery of the Goal Key to always easily have a way out of the goal!
