The Brine is a powerful entity found in the deep waters of the world in Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2). See more details of the Brine here!
List of Contents
The Brine is a powerful entity in the deep waters, consuming most living things that wade deep enough in any body of water.
The Brine kills any enemies and NPCs and forfeits your pawns that fall into deep water — making it a powerful tool to defeat strong monsters and a great threat to you and your party.
A small exception to the Brine's devouring hunger exists among most aquatic creatures, such as fish or some Saurian enemies.
Your character, the Arisen, does not die from the grasp of the Brine. However, you are still affected by it.
Being consumed by the Brine teleports you back to your last safe spot before getting consumed.
Diving instantly into deep waters gets you instantly consumed by the Brine. When walking towards deeper water, however, you will be warned for a few seconds, with the water surrounding you becoming a deep red color before you get consumed by the Brine.
Despite the graphic visuals of the Brine consuming you, it does not reduce your green health pool nor does it increase the loss gauge that reduces your max health.
Practically, the Brine functions to limit the explorable world, much like how untraversable terrain exists, such as steep mountains, to limit where the player can explore.
The Brine is the creative solution to explain why swimming and traversing the waters is impossible in Dragon's Dogma 1, and the same goes for its sequel.
