Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2)

How to Enhance Equipment

Dragon
Enhance your equipment by visiting any armory or smithy you find in Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2). Read on to learn about how to enhance your gear, where to enhance, and the different smithing styles!

Where to Enhance Equipment

Visit an Armory or Smithy

Smithing Style Capable NPCs
Vermundian Bjorn (Vernworth)
Roderick (Vernworth)
Elven Grisha (Sacred Arbor)
Battahli Awaran (Bakbattahl)
Bodas (Bakbattahl)
Beatrice (Volcanic Island Camp)
Dwarven Sara (Bakbattahl)
Gautstafr (Windwalker's Home)
Wyrmfire The Dragonforged (Bay Wayside Shrine)

You can enhance your equipment whenever you come upon a Smithy or Armory in the region. Armories and smithies are usually found in settlements, where the earliest place to enhance equipment is at Vernworth.

Armories are labeled as the helmet icon, while smithies are the sword icon on the map.

Some are exceptions such as The Dragonforged and Gautstafr. These NPCs who offer enhancements will have to be sought out at remote locations.

How to Enhance Equipment

Bring the Required Materials

Dragon
You can enhance your equipment by providing the necessary materials and paying a set amount of Gold in any armory or smithy.

In the case of Wyrmfire Smithing, you will need to pay with Wyrmslife Crystals (WLC).

Regardless of whether or not you are in an armory or smithy, you can choose to enhance either weapon or armor.

List of All Materials

Consume Enhancement Slots

Dragon
After enhancing a piece of equipment, you will consume an enhancement slot.

Each equipment has three (3) enhancement slots and one (1) extra slot unlocked upon discovering Wyrmfire Smithing, so plan your enhancements accordingly.

Different Styles of Smithing

Smithing Style Equipment Stat Increase
DragonVermundian Moderately enhances all the attributes of the equipment.
Dragon Elven Greatly increases Magick and Mag. Def, but has little effect on Strength and Defense.
DragonBattahli Greatly increases Strength and Defense, but has little effect on Magick and Mag. Def.
DragonDwarven Greatly increases Knockdown Power and Knockdown Resistance. Slight increase to Strength or Magick.
DragonWyrmfire Halves the weight and greatly increases efficacy.

Each settlement's craftsman has different enhancement styles that drastically change how your equipment is enhanced.

Wyrmfire Smithing only uses up the final fourth enhancement slot. You will have to max out the first three slots of your chosen equipment before you can apply that smithing style.

Smithing Style Order Influences Stats

Dragon

Enhance damage with Battahli style and then boost Knockdown Power with Dwarven style.

You can apply as much as three different smithing styles on your equipment with the final one being Wyrmfire Smithing. It has been observed that the final slot applies the most effect to the equipment.

When going for min-maxing, it is best to start experimenting in New Game Plus since you can reset an equipment's enhancement slots at The Dragonforged by that time.

When mixing different styles in the same weapon, it has been observed that the value added will be the same value as whichever style was used for that same slot.

For example, in testing with the Ironclad Staff, VBD slot 1 will take the same value as VVV slot 1. VBD slot 2 will take the same value as BBB slot 2, and then the third slot will take the value based on DDD slot 3.

Enhancing Equipment Benefits

Increases the Stats of Equipment

Dragon
Enhancing your equipment provides you with better stats, allowing for more survivability and damage potential.

For example, Dwarven Smithing is good for boosting Knockdown Power to increase the chances of immobilizing enemies. Wyrmfire Smithing is extremely helpful for cutting down on carry weight.
