The Daughter of the Evening is a fairly powerful shield that you can get early in Vernworth Castle Vault. Its knockdown power is one of the highest among the shields and has enough strength to carry it until the endgame. The Shield of Vernworth makes a fine alternative if you don't have this shield yet.

The Continental Shield is the best midgame shield if you don't have the Daughter of the Evening yet. Its main advantages are its higher strength and lighter weight which should be helpful for Sword-wielding Fighters.

The Dragon's Aegis is the strongest shield in the game, as it's unrivaled in strength and knockdown. However, it's exclusive to the postgame, so you should aim to get the Dragon's Faith if you want the best shield on your first playthrough.

Fighter-Specific Equipment

Shields are equipment available only for characters with the Fighter Vocation. It means you won't be able to equip it on other characters with different vocations.

Shields can also be equipped on Pawns, assuming they are a Fighter. Consider equipping them with a new or better shield to increase their overall combat ability in a battle!

Block Certain Attacks

Shields can block attacks from offensive spells or physical weapons. However, some abilities that apply negative statuses, like Sleep, might go over the shield and affect your characters.

Shield can also be used as a weapon aside from just blocking attacks through Weapon Skills. You can unlock new Weapons Skills for shields by leveling up the Fighter Vocation and spending DCP!

Gives More Strike Strength and Knockdown Power

Shields give more Strike Strength and Knockdown Power, unlike swords that provide more Strength and Slash Strength. Strike Strength scales the damage of the shield since it's a blunt weapon, while the Knockdown Power increases the chance of knocking down an enemy.
