How to Start The Sotted Sage
Speak to Lamond in Volcanic Island Camp
Make your way to the Volcanic Island Camp and head up the wooden ramps and up a ladder to find Lamond. He'll automatically approach you and give you the quest, regardless of your dialogue choice.

How to Complete The Sotted Sage
Obtain Three Newt Liqueurs
You'll need to give Lamond 3 Newt Liqueur for him to teach you the ways of the Warfarer. You can make Newt Liqueur yourself by combining Saurian Tail and Fruit Wine.
Saurian Tails can be easily farmed by cutting their tails. Fruit Wine on the other hand is harder to come by but you can get three of them by completing Feast of Deception, Welcome to Battahl, and A Noble Exchange quests.
Get Newt Liqueur in Gautstafr's Home
You can get a Newt Liqueur inside Gautstafr's house during the Put a Spring in Thy Step quest. You'll find it on top of the table near the door.
Purchase Newt Liqueur in Higg's Tavern (Optional)
If you lack the ingredients to craft your own, you can get 3 Newt Liqueur easy by doing a short task in Bakbattahl.
Proceed to Higg's Tavern and look for a small, fenced area with two sacks next to it. Pick up a sack and place it inside the fenced area. This will be translated as a secret code, and you'll be allowed to enter the tavern and purchase Newt Liqueurs for 5000 Gold each.
Note that you'll have to wear a Beastren Mask while doing this, or else the guy standing next to the fence will call for guards to attack you.
Return to Lamond
Once you have all 3 Newt Liqueurs, make your way back to the Volcanic Island Camp and deliver the alcohol to Lamond.
As thanks, he'll grant you access to the Warfarer vocation. This concludes the quest, but speak with him again to get the Grandmaster's Path, which is the Maister's Teaching for the Warfarer vocation.

What if the Sacks are Missing in Higg's Tavern?
Force Spawn them by Resting at an Inn
There's a possibility that the sacks that you'll need to place in the fenced area won't spawn. Since moving the sack is a requirement for unlocking the secret merchant in Higg's Tavern, you might not be able to purchase Newt Liqueur if this happens.
If ever it occurs, we recommend resting at the inn in Bakbattahl to force spawn the sacks in the fenced area. If this doesn't work, then your only choice is to create the Newt Liqueur on your own or by talking to wandering merchants you may pass by when traveling.
