The Sorcerer's Appraisal Walkthrough and All Grimoire Locations

The Sorcerer's Appraisal is a side quest in Dragon's Dogma 2 (DD2). Read our guide for a walkthrough on how to start and complete The Sorcerer's Appraisal quest, as well as to know if you should give the grimoires to Myrddin!

Note: Most, if not all, of these grimoires have at least two copies that can be found. We've listed below the locations we know of so far. If you know of other locations than the ones listed below, let us know in the comments!

Let There Be Light Location

The Let There Be Light grimoire can be obtained in a study inside Myrddin's Home in Checkpoint Rest Town. To get here, climb the broken walls located on the right side of the house, then jump on the balcony. The grimoire will be sitting on top of the table to your right.

Fulminous Shield Location

The Fulminous Shield grimoire can be purchased from one of the merchants in Melve Village for 5000 G. You should be able to find him near the entrance of the village. Just look for an NPC with a camping kit on his back, and that should be your guy.

Nation's Death Knell Location

You can acquire the Nation's Death Knell grimoire in one of the rooms on the second floor of the Ancient Battleground. You'll find it in a room located right near the stairs leading to the higher floors of the dungeon. The grimoire will be displayed on what seems to be an altar.

Howling Blizzard Location

The Howling Blizzard grimoire can be obtained by opening a chest found on the second floor of the Waterfall Cave. You'll be able to distinguish this chest through the blue light illuminating on it.

Warning: Opening this chest will summon a Lich, which can be troublesome to deal with!

We assure you, however, that the challenge will be worth the trouble, as opening this chest will give you the Howling Blizzard and another copy of the Nation's Death Knell.

You can obtain the last grimoire by speaking with Waldhar inside The Gracious Hands' Vaults. To get access to this place and find Waldhar there, you'd have to complete The Caged Magistrate quest.

How to Complete The Sorcerer's Appraisal

1. Gather All of the Grimoires
2. Deliver the Grimoires to Myrddin

Gather All of the Grimoires

Start obtaining all five grimoires. These can be found in different locations across the open world.

Deliver the Grimoires to Myrddin

After obtaining all of the grimoires, head back to Myrddin to deliver them. However, before doing so, we recommend dropping by Ibrahim's Scrap Store to make forgeries of the books. Another quest will ask you for these grimoires, and you'd greatly benefit from completing both of them!

Note: You can still get the same rewards if you give Myrddin only three forgeries!

Should You Give the Grimoires to Myrddin?

Give Myrddin the Fake Grimoires

There is another quest called Spellbound that would require you to get and submit all five grimoires. We recommend forging the grimoires and giving those to Myrddin, as you won't miss out on any rewards he will give you even if you deliver the fake ones.

Give the original copies to Trysha to get more rewards from her and Eini. If you give the forged copies to Trysha, you'll be locked out of some important rewards, including a powerful spell called Celestial Paen and the Meteoron Maister Teaching for Sorcerers.

How to Start The Sorcerer's Appraisal

Visit Myrddin's Home While Wearing the Courtly Attire

You would have to wear both Courtly Tunic and Courtly Breeches for Myrddin to entertain you. Obtain both, then visit his home to begin the quest.

Courtly Attire Location

One of the methods to obtain both the Courtly Tunic and the Courtly Breeches is by opening the chests found at Vernworth Castle. You can go for the one located in the Guest Chambers on the second floor of Vernworth Castle.

Alternatively, you can obtain this attire by completing The Ornate Box quest.
