How to Start Seat of the Sovran
Speak to Captain Brant at the Stardrop Inn at Night
The quest starts right after the Melve flashback in In Dragon’s Wake. Once you arrive in Vernworth, you are brought to Captain Brant in the Merchant Quarter. After the short scene, wait until night and meet Brant inside the Stardrop Inn to formally begin the quest.

Leave the Interrogation Room
After the Vernworth interrogation, step outside to trigger a short scene of a young man fleeing guards. When a soldier asks his whereabouts, you can choose to “Lie” or “Tell the Truth.”
Lying protects him and sets up the quest The Ornate Box; telling the truth only changes the dialogue. Either way, the guard catches him.
Meet Captain Brant at the Tavern at Night
Pass time until nightfall by resting on a red bench or at an inn. Go to the Stardrop Inn and speak to Captain Brant. He brings you to a private table and explains that to prove you are the true Arisen and reclaim the throne, you must win the favor of the people and gather evidence against the false Sovran.
Choose One of Captain Brant’s Three Tasks
During your conversation with Captain Brant, you can ask him questions that unlock specific quests:
- Tell me of monster culling → Unlocks Monster Culling
- Tell me of the queen regent → Unlocks Disa’s Plot
- Tell me of the magistrate → Unlocks The Caged Magistrate and grants the Gaol Key
Accepting one formally completes Seat of the Sovran, but you are not locked into a single route. Each task starts its own questline, and all can be completed in any order. You choose which to tackle first, and the others can still be accepted later by returning to Brant.
