Lie About the Stranger's Whereabouts

Dragon

As soon as you step outside the tavern, you'll encounter a stranger and then a guard shortly after who is looking for him.

If you choose to lie, the guard will go in another direction and the stranger will appreciate the favor. However, the guard will be back and the stranger will flee again.

Tell the Truth and Expose the Stranger

If you choose to tell the truth and expose the stranger, the guard will immediately chase after him, leaving you free to continue progressing through the game.

The Guard Will Find the Stranger Either Way

The stranger is an important figure in the story and you will cross paths with him again later on during the quest The Ornate Box. Either choice will progress the story with only a minor change in dialogue.
