Elden Ring

Greatsword Location, Stats, and Scaling

Elden Ring - Greatsword size:728x380

Greatsword is a Colossal Sword in Elden Ring that scales with Strength and Dexterity. Similar to Guts' Sword from the Berserk series by Kentaro Miura, read on to learn how to get the Greatsword, as well as its location, description, upgrades, stat requirements, and best Ashes of War.

Greatsword Location

Obtained at a Black Carriage in Caelid

The Greatsword is found in a chest behind a black carriage on the road between the Rotview Balcony and Caelem Ruins in Caelid. Caelid is found to the east of Limgrave and can be accessed through various ways.

How to Get Greatsword
1
Reach the Rotview Balcony Site of Grace in Caelid early first via two safe ways. From the Gatefront Site of Grace:
・Go northwest following the road to Stormhill Shack, then go east following the long road until you reach Caelid.
・Go east following the road above Agheel Lake, going north after the bridge, then reaching the Third Church of Marika and using the spiritsprings north from there.
2
From the Rotview Balcony Site of Grace, follow the road going northeast until you spot a black carriage.
3
Go to the back of the black carriage. Be cautious when approaching since it will be guarded by Giant Dogs and one Giant Crow.
4

Open the chest (can be easily spotted with candles) at the back of the black carriage to obtain the Greatsword. For a nearby site of grace to run to quickly, you can follow the road further east to the Caelem Ruins.

How to Complete Guts' Sword and Armor

Many players have observed that the Colossal Greatsword bears a striking resemblance to Guts' Sword from the Berserk series created by Kentaro Miura.

Once you have the weapon, you can take it a step further and complete Guts' look by obtaining the Night's Cavalry Armor Set from the duo Night's Cavalry bosses found at the Mountaintops of the Giants.

Greatsword Ashes of War
: LionAsh of War: Lion's Claw : Golden LandAsh of War: Golden Land
: Giant HuntAsh of War: Giant Hunt : CragbladeAsh of War: Cragblade

The best Ashes of War to use for the Greatsword are the Lion's Claw and Giant Hunt for physical and stance damage. For those with a heavy investment into FAI alongside STR, Golden Land is a great choice for dealing holy damage with stance breaks.

The Cragblade Ash of War is a good and FP-efficient option for a temporary buff to physical and stance damage to get the most out of the Greatsword's moveset from jump attacks to charge heavy attacks.
