How to Use Precision Dodge Effectively

FF16 - How to Use Precision Dodge
You can perform a precision dodge by evading at the right time during an opponent's attack in Final Fantasy 16 (FF16). Read on to learn how to perform a precision dodge, tips for making precision dodges easier, recommended accessories, and how to unlock the Such Dodge, So Mega trophy.

How to Use Precision Dodge

Dodge an Attack Right Before it Hits

To perform a Precision Dodge, press the Dodge button (R1 by default) just as an attack is about to hit.

This will only work during the small time window before the attack hits; pressing Dodge too early or too late will not make the precision dodge register.

Precision Dodge Effects and How to Unlock

Follow Up with Precision Counter

When you successfully perform a precision dodge, the enemy will get slowed and become vulnerable to a Precision Counter.

To perform a precision counter, press the Attack or Magic button immediately after the precision dodge.

Tips to Do Precision Dodge Easier

Equip Timely Accessories

If you're having difficulty dodging, consider equipping the Ring of Timely Focus, which triggers a QTE where time is slowed before an attack hits. All your dodges will become precision dodges when done during these QTEs.

You can also consider the Ring of Timely Evasion, which makes you auto-dodge attacks without pressing the Dodge button. However, these dodges are not guaranteed to be precision dodges.

Upgrade in the Ability Menu

When you upgrade and master the Precision Dodge ability, the trigger window for the precision dodge will be extended. You'll need 500 Ability Points to master this ability.

Note that you don't need to do this if you follow the tip above of having the Ring of Timely Focus equipped.
