Unlike previous installments from Final Fantasy, the mini map function is not available for FF16. The devs decided to not include a mini map to encourage players to explore the land of Valisthea!

How to Use Animal Instinct

Press and Hold the L3 Button

To get to objectives, the game introduces the Animal Instinct function, which will orient the camera towards the direction of your current quest, marked by a red seal, by holding the L3 button.

Torgal Guides Clive When Part of His Party

One of your party members is Clive's beloved canine sidekick, Torgal! Using the Animal Instinct function will have Torgal guide you towards the direction you need to go. Who's the good boy?

How to View Your Current Location

Press the Touchpad to View the Local Map

FF16 - Local Map

Press the Touchpad to display the local map. The golden cursor-like icon is your current position.

Some dungeons will not have a local map, and you might not be able to see your current location in dungeons.

Open the World Map via the Options Button

FF16 - World Map

You can open the World Map by going to the Menu and then the Map tab. You can also open it by pressing the Options button when you open up the local map.
