How to Beat Knight of the Blinding Dawn

Step-by-Step Guide

Patiently Time Your Evasions

FF16 - Knight of the Blinding Dawn Time Your Evasions

The battle between you and the Knight of the Blinding Dawn involves a lot of dodging and evading as his attack patterns and animations have a lot of combos and follow-up attacks using aerial spins with his lance. You will have to patiently wait for his combos to finish before getting the opportunity to strike back.

If you're having a difficult time evading, use range attacks first to deal damage until you become familiar with his moveset.

Precision Dodge During the Follow-Up Attack

Ff16 - Precision Dodge After the Follow-Up Attack

A key thing to knowing when to evade is waiting for the follow-up attack and using Precision Dodge during the last few moments of the second attack animation. If successful, this will allow you to launch a counter attack afterwards.

How to Parry Attacks

Use Phoenix Shift to Close in on the Knight

After successfully dodging an attack, you can quickly close in on the Knight by using Phoenix Shift then unleashing Rising Flames to deal damage to him.

If he isn't staggered after this, move back and evade his attacks again until the cooldown of Rising Flames ends, then repeat the same process until you've broken his will.

Equip the Ring of Timely Evasion

If the timing of the Knight's combo attacks are proving to become too difficult to evade, the Ring of Timely Evasion will assist you as it will automatically dodge incoming enemy attacks.

This removes the need to anticipate attacks and pressing the dash/dodge button at the correct time.

All Timely Accessories are enabled by choosing the Story Focused Mode difficulty before starting the game, or changing the Focused Mode in the Settings menu.

Execute Combos After Evading His Jumps

FF16 - Avoid Double Jumps

Attacking him after successfully evading his jumping abilities is the best way to unleash your combos as he'll be recovering for a few seconds after this.

Be on the lookout for the blue light markers on the ground as this is where he'll be landing; quickly use Rising Phoenix (if it's not on cooldown), then spam your attack button to deal damage to him.

Evade Twice During Double Jumps

After staggering him during the Cinematic Strike in the latter half of the battle, he'll begin using Double Jumps so you'll have to dodge twice this time!
