How to Unlock Dozmare Hunt

The griffin location is in the Norvent Valley, near the Lostwing fast travel obelisk. You need to locate the griffin, Dozmare, as part of the side quest Blacksmith's Blues.

Dozmare can be located in Norvent Valley at the Holy Empire of Sanbreque. Players can proceed to this area quickly by fast traveling to the nearest Obelisk, Lostwing.

Found During Hunter and the Hunted Quest in New Game Plus

A normal griffin can be encountered during the Hunter and the Hunted Main Quest when playing in New Game Plus, replacing the second Minotaur encounter in the regular mode.

This griffin is separate from Dozmare, and defeating it will not count for Dozmare's Hunt Board completion.

Identify its Next Move When it Jumps Learn the Pattern of its Noble Dive

Identify its Next Move When it Jumps

After jumping up, Dozmare will do one of two types of follow-up attack; it will either do a diving lunge, or it will summon an AOE wind attack around it. Identify which attack it will use by observing the ground below it.

No Effect Below Means it Will Lunge

If you don't see a light effect below Dozmare, it means that it will do a diving lunge attack. Time a precision dodge and counter with the lunge to deal a good amount of damage!

Light Effect Below Means it Will Summon an AOE Wind Attack

If you see a yellowish light below Dozmare, it means that it will summon an AOE wind attack around it. Get some distance away from Dozmare to avoid the attack.

Learn the Pattern of its Noble Dive

Dozmare's Noble Dive is a special attack with multiple parts. First, it glows and flies in circles to prepare for its attack, then it will do a diving lunge attack. After that, a ring of energy will pulse out of Dozmare.

Get ready when it starts flying in circles, then dodge at the right time when it lunges. Quickly dodge the energy ring after; if you can, precision dodge forward towards Dozmare so you can get a lot of hits in as it recovers from the attack.

Description
While passing along the trail from Lostwing to Caer Norvent, one of our order was met with a sudden blast of wind so strong that it bent back the trunks of the old oaks, and heard a cry so terrible that he ran for his life. Questioning the locals revealed that this area was the nesting place of the elder griffin known as “Dozmare”—a beast much hated for its appetite both for chocobos and for children.
