What are Timely Accessories?

Combat Assist Accessories that Adjust Game Difficulty

FF16 - Timely Accessories

Timely Accessories are tools that make gameplay easier, designed for players less experienced in the action genre. These accessories aid the player via quick time events, when they find themselves in a pinch.

The developers have encouraged players to experiment with these accessories to find which gameplay experience works best for them.

Carry Various Effects that Make Combat Easier

These accessories are essentially in-game cheat codes that make actions like dodging and combos much easier to perform.

List of Timely Accessories

Timely Accessory Effect
Ring of Timely Evasion Automatically evades attacks.
Ring of Timely Focus Slows time when about to be struck.
Ring of Timely Strikes Executes combos with one button.
Ring of Timely Assistance Automates Torgal's actions.
Ring of Timely Healing Automatically uses potions when low on health.

Ring of Timely Evasion

FF16 - Ring of Timely Evasion
The Ring of Timely Evasion automates Clive's evasion of enemy attacks.

This accessory's function is to eliminate the need of anticipating attacks and pressing the evade button; Clive will simply evade the attack when you're about to get hit, without the player doing anything.

Ring of Timely Focus

FF16 - Ring of Timely Focus
The Ring of Timely Focus slows time in the player's perspective when Clive is about to be struck by an enemy attack. An circular bar indicator appears and the player must press the evade button before time runs out.

This accessory has no effect when equipped with the Ring of Timely Evasion.

Ring of Timely Strikes

FF16 - Ring of Timely Strikes
The Ring of Timely Strikes allows complex ability combinations to be executed into a single press of a button.

This accessory goes well with the Ring of Timely Focus; you can keep unleashing combos with a single attack button with Timely Strikes, shift to evading attacks with Timely Focus when the enemy attacks, then continue unleashing combos after.

Ring of Timely Assistance

Should players equip the Ring of Timely Assistance, pet commands are executed automatically and Torgal's actions will adapt to Clive's. The Ring of Timely Assistance's effects are included in the Ring of Timely Strikes.

Ring of Timely Healing

When equipping the Ring of Timely Healing, Clive will automatically use a potion when his HP falls below a certain point. Potions will be used before High Potions.

How to Use Timely Accessories

Equip Rings in the Gear Inventory

The effects of these Timely Accessories can be enabled by equipping the respective ring in your Gear loadout. These are already available at the start of the game.

These accessories take up a gear slot. If your inventory for accessories is full and you want to equip a Timely Accessory, you'll have to replace a gear accessory with the ring.

Choose the Story Focused Mode Difficulty

Some Timely Accessories are automatically equipped in the Story Focused Mode difficulty, which can be chosen before starting the game, or by changing the Gameplay Mode in the Settings menu.

All the Timely Accessories are also available on Action Focused Mode and Final Fantasy Mode should you wish to equip them.

Timely Accessories Disable Some Mechanics

FF16 - Accessories Slot
Equipping timely accessories takes away some helpful mechanics in most scenarios. For example: you can't parry attacks while the Ring of Timely Focus is equipped. That's because the ring brings up a quick time event to evade attacks, and you cannot perform a parry while there is a QTE underway.

Another example: the Ring of Timely Evasion makes it a bit harder to execute a Precision Counter since Clive automatically dodges enemy attacks and doesn't always trigger a Precision Dodge.

If You're Struggling, Use Timely Accessories

Equipping the Timely Accessories ultimately depends on your personal preference. If you're having difficulty with the game, feel free to equip them to suit your experience! The game doesn't penalize you for using these, especially if you don't mind missing out on the additional mechanics.
