FINAL FANTASY 16 - The Last King Unlock

The Last King starts after going to the Reverie during the Footfalls in Ash quest. You will face the last standing king in Valisthea, Barnabas, along with other strong and new enemies on this quest!

Quest Objectives

Ascend to the top
Barnabas is at the top of the tower. Defeat enemies as you make your way up!

Start by eliminating the enemies at the beginning to unlock the door to the next area.

Use the lift to get the next area. You will encounter a new enemy, Purobolos. It is similar to the Bomb enemies, except it exert lightning instead of fire!

You will encounter a Fallen Guardian and several Purobolos in the next area. Defeat them all to access the next room.
How to Beat Fallen Guardian

Use the lift and head up. Follow the path until you reach the next door.

You will be blocked by a Purple Bavarois at the end. Defeat it to unlock the door. You can also loot the chest near it to get The Favor of Ice (Ice Age).

Ride another lift to get to the next area. You will face several Fallen Hunters once you get out of the lift. Defeat them and open the door to the next room.

Enemies will come down from a lift on the next room. Slay them all to unlock the door on the other side.

A lift is waiting inside the next room. Hop on it and make your way up.

A new enemy named Soultaker will meet you at the top. Defeat it to progress!
How to Beat Soultaker

Jump on the platform where the Soultaker spawned. Follow the path until you get to an open area.

Continue going until you see a chest at the end. Loot it and get The Will of Ice (Mesmerize). Open the door on the left once you're ready to go!

There will another lift after opening the door. Ride it and it will lead you to the highest floor where Barnabas is staying.

However, you will need to defeat the Control Node and Aurum Giant first before you can get there!

Defeat Barnabas
It's time for round three against Barnabas. You will be able to beat him this time and obtain his Eikon, Odin.

How to Beat Fallen Guardian

FINAL FANTASY 16 - The Last King - How to Beat Fallen Guardian
This will be the third time you'll face a Fallen Guardian in the story. However, it has new moves that deal tons of damage if you let them. Keep evading its attacks until you get the chance to hit back. Rinse and repeat until it dies!

Tips for Beating

  • Parry or dodge basic energy sword attacks
  • Keep evading during Enfilade
  • Defeat weaker enemies first

How to Beat Purple Bavarois

FINAL FANTASY 16 - The Last King - How to Beat Purple Bavarois
Purple Bavarois is a slime-looking monster that uses tentacles and emits lightning to hit its opponent. Its attacks are slow, and you can use that to your advantage to hit it before and after its attacks!

Tips for Beating

  • Evade Thundaga by moving sideways
  • Dodge or parry the tentacle attacks
  • Keep hitting it after the attack

How to Beat Soultaker

FINAL FANTASY 16 - The Last King - How to Beat Soultaker
The Soultaker is the upgraded version of an Undertaker in the game. They have the same moveset, except Soultaker has more up in its sleeve!

Tips for Beating

  • Dodge Spirits Within in the opposite direction
  • Parry or dodge punches and ground smash attacks
  • Jump or dodge the shockwaves

How to Beat Control Node

FF16 - Control Node Laser Beams
Control Node is a giant ball that has various lethal attacks, melee and ranged, in its arsenal. The timing of its attacks is a bit different compared to other enemies, so it might take some time to get used to its attack. Once you get the timing, it should be easy to dodge them and go for counters until it dies!

Tips for Beating

  • Evade the laser beam attacks
  • Prevent it from unleashing energy cells
  • Keep moving during Short Circuit

How to Beat Control Node

How to Beat Aurum Giant

FF16 - Aurum Giant Golden Section
Aurum Giant appears after beating Control Node in the lift. You can easily parry and dodge its attacks as they are slow.

Tips for Beating

  • Keep away from the blue flames
  • Parry or dodge basic sword attacks
  • Keep moving during Aetherial Assault Cannon
  • Dodge Golden Section sideways to avoid it

This will be your final encounter against Barnabas. He will fight you using all of his form, from his Semi-Prime form to Odin form. Maximize the use of your skills and abilities to beat him!

  • Attack at the end of the sword combos
  • Jump or dodge Gungnir and its shockwave
  • Keep moving during Lord's Measure
