Stats Explanation
Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - HP
HP
Hit Points (HP) are reduced when taking damage. Should this number fall to zero, the game will be over.
Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Attack
Attack
Offensive potential is determined via a combination of physical aptitude (STR) and gear quality. The higher the total value, the more damage dealt per attack.
Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Defense
Defense
Defensive potential is determined via a combination of physical aptitude (VIT) and gear quality. The higher the total value, the lesser the damage taken from enemies.
Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Stagger
Stagger
Ability to overwhelm an opponent is determined via a combination of mental aptitude (WIL) and gear quality. The higher the total value, the easier it is to knock down targets.

STR
Player strength directly affects power.
Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Vitality
VIT
Player vitality directly affects defense.
Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Willpower
WIL
Player wil directly affects stagger ability.

Stats, or attributes, are the representation of how strong the main protagonist, Clive, is. It's usually presented in numbers; the higher the numbers for the stats are, the stronger the character is.

Attack and Stagger Rating in Abilities

Abilties and Its Ratings
Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Deal Damage Indicates an ability's capacity for dealing damage.
Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) - Break target Indicates an ability's capacity for breaking a target's will.

Abilities have a separate Attack and Stagger ratings which will differ on each ability; for example, The Garuda Ability, Aerial Blast, have an Attack Rating of 2 and a Stagger rating of 5 while the Phoenix Abilitiy, Rising Flames, have and Attack Rating of 3 and a Stagger Rating of 2.

Equipping Clive with high-rated abilities, plus levelling him up and equipping the right gears and weapons, will result in devastating damage. This will make for a more dominant gameplay.

How to Increase Stats in FF16

Increase Through Equipping Gear and Weapons

Equipping the right Gear and Equipment and powerful Weapons increases stats, which can further strengthen Clive. For example, the Goldwork Sash belt increases HP by 6 and Defense by 36 while the Invictus sword increases Attack and Stagger by 165.

Aside from acquiring from spoils, you can buy gears and weapons in Charon's Toll Shop located in Cid's Hideaway. Also at Cid's is the Blacksmith, where you can upgrade equipment in your inventory. For more information about weapon/armor crafting, check out the following guide:

Increases When Levelling Up

As with any Final Fantasy games, these stats can be increased through levelling up. This can be done by simply progressing the game, such as doing quests and defeating powerful enemies.
