Final Fantasy 16 has several explorable areas but does not have an open world. The developers want to stray from the usual open world from the past titles to try a different approach to their latest game.

This change was done to give the story a sense of a bigger scale as players travel to different parts of the world!

The game has multiple locations in different sections and environments. While not as big as most open worlds in other games, the game takes players throughout the entire world of Valisthea.

These locations can be accessed through the map menu by fast traveling to Obelisks. More areas are unlocked as players continue to progress through the story.
