Back to Their Origin Boss: How to Defeat Ultima

Boss Overview

FF16 - Ultima Boss Overview
Ultima has a total of four phases in the final boss fight. The first phase is mostly a cinematic fight where you will need to follow the button prompts that appear. You will take damage but this is scripted as part of the fight.

In the second phase, use Precision Dodges and Precision Strikes whenever he attacks to chip away his health. Most of his melee attacks have a slow windup time and can be easily telegraphed.

Watch out for the circles on the ground whenever he unleashes a named attack such as Flare, Holy, Ultima, and Meteor as this indicates where the attack will land. Use dodges or Cold Snap to get out of the circles quickly.

Tips for Beating Ultima Prime (First Phase)

  • Press the correct button that appears during the fight.

Tips for Beating Ultima (Second Phase)

  • Use Precision Dodges and Precision Strikes to counter against his normal melee attacks.
  • Use dodge or Cold Snap whenever he uses an AoE attack.
  • Use ranged attacks when he flies out of range.

Tips for Beating Ultima Risen (Third Phase)

  • Focus on attacking Ultima Risen during the fight.
  • Dodge thrice during the Antistrophe attack.
  • Deplete the barrier's health whenever he uses Purgatory to prevent an instant game over.

Tips for Beating Ultimalius (Fourth Phase)

  • Use dodges or Cold Snap to avoid Eikon attacks and AoE attacks.
  • Attack Ultimalius after each Eikon attack before he teleports away.
