It's game over when you die in Final Fantasy 16 (FF16). Read on to find out if there is a death penalty and what happens when you die.
List of Contents
There is no death penalty for getting a game over in FF16. If you're struggling in a certain area or against certain bosses, you can open the main menu from the game over screen to change the game mode to Story Focused and equip Timely Accessories. These also have no penalties, so you're free to experience the game as you like!
When Clive dies in the middle of combat, the game lets you choose between returning to the title screen or restarting the game from a checkpoint with a fully replenished supply of potions and high potions. For boss fights, this means you can continue from the most recent phase without having to start all over!
While out exploring local maps, you may encounter Obelisks. These not only work for fast travel but also act as respawn points when you die in the overworld. Potions and high potions are also restored. However, other consumables will remain used up.
All Obelisk Locations and How to Fast Travel
If you're taking on Final Fantasy Mode, getting a game over and restarting only restores two potions. Make sure to keep this limitation in mind as you can't rely on the having a full stock of potions when dying anymore.
How to Unlock Final Fantasy Mode
Dying in Arcade Mode does not consume any of your items and restores your previous state before starting. Stage Replay, however, is similar to regular battles as consumables remain used but lets you keep any gained EXP and items.
