Torgal's Role in Final Fantasy 16
An Outcast Taken in by House Rosfield
Another outcast from the Northern Territories taken in by House Rosfield, Torgal was found alone in a snowfield during one of Archduke Elwin's expeditions to the freezing north, and gifted to his sons upon his return.
After somehow surviving the disaster that nearly ended the Rosfield line, he was reunited with Clive over a decade later, and now serves his master with the same fierce loyalty he did when he was but a pup.
How to Control Torgal
Acts as an Assist During Combat
Torgal cannot be controlled completely, but can be part of your party and assist you as an AI in battle. You can equip the Ring of Timely Assistance to have Torgal automatically adapt to Clive's actions!
Command Torgal with Directional Buttons
Torgal can be issued simple commands during battle using the directional buttons. These commands allow Torgal to either attack or provide light healing.
Execute Precision Sics for More Damage
Torgal's Precision Sic technique makes him execute unique attacks that dish out more damage. This can be done by commanding Torgal to use Sic or Ravage right after toppling an enemy or doing a Precision Dodge.
Can You Pet Torgal?
You Can Pet and Feed Torgal
It is confirmed as of April 2023's State of Play livestream: You can pet the dog. And while Torgal is more than just a dog, you can definitely pet him, as well as feed him treats.

Petting Torgal five times unlocks the You Can Pet the Dog bronze trophy! But you know for sure that you won't stop at five.
A Fine Hound - Land Five Precision Sics

| Execute and land 5 Precision Sics (excluding battles in Hall of Virtue).
・How to Do Precision Sics |
Landing five Precision Sics—easier achieved by commanding Torgal to use Sic right after a Precision Dodge—will unlock the A Fine Hound bronze trophy.
One way to do this is to have the AI control Torgal by equipping the Ring of Timely Assistance then keep getting into random fights. Torgal will sometimes use Sic as you dodge attacks, and eventually win you the trophy.
