The Grand Duchy of Rosaria was formed from the unity of a group of small independent provinces in western Valisthea.

The nation draws its aether from the Drake's Breath, a Mothercrystal situated on a volcanic island off the coast.

The Archduke is the Dominant of the Phoenix

Rosaria has a tradition of enthroning the Dominant of the Phoenix when they come of age. While all expected the firstborn of the Archduke, Clive, to awaken as the Dominant of the Phoenix, destiny instead chose the secondborn, Joshua, instead.

Clive, Unique Dominant

Dominant: Clive	Eikon: Multiple

Clive Rosfield is the main character of Final Fantasy XVI and the firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria. A master of the blade, he was dubbed the First Shield of Rosaria and tasked with guarding the Phoenix.

Clive has been shown to have the unique Dominant ability to harness the power of multiple Eikons. From childhood he was able to wield the fire of the Phoenix, and in gameplay he's been shown to be able to wield the elemental abilities of the other Eikons as well.

The Dominant of Ifrit

Clive awakens as the Dominant of Ifrit during the events of the main story. Ifrit's status as another Eikon of Fire was a shocking and unprecedented event in the history of Valisthea, since everyone believed that there was only one Eikon for each element.

Joshua Rosfield is the second son of the Archduke of Rosaria and Clive's younger brother. He awoke as the Dominant of the Phoenix soon after his birth.

Born in the fallen Northern Territories, Jill was taken from her homeland to become a ward of Rosaria. She was raised in the Rosfield household along with Clive and Joshua.

Soon after certain events tears apart the three, Jill eventually awakens as the Dominant of Shiva.
