Description: Hugo Kupka learns of Cid's true identity, and marshals his loyal minions to march on Rosalith—the city in which Clive was born and raised. Though full aware that this is naught but another of Kupka's traps, Clive jumps at the chance to put the hideaway's longtime nemesis to the sword. With Jill and Gav in support, he infiltrates the former ducal capital, where battle between Kupka's Men of the Rock and its imperial occupiers still rages, and together, they make their way to the castle, where Kupka awaits.

Capital Punishment starts after going to Rosalith during the After the Storm quest. Prepare well before taking on this quest, as there are a lot of formidable foes almost at every corner!

Quest Objectives

# Capital Punishment Objectives

Make for Rosalith Castle
Rosalith is under attack as you reach it. Head to the castle and drive the enemies away!

Follow the path, then turn right and enter the gate.

Enemies are waiting on the other side of the gate, so be prepared. Take them out, then talk the ladder to get to the next area.

Kill the mage first so the enemies won't get shields!

Drop down onto the next area, where more enemies await. Follow the path and eliminate the enemies along the way until you reach the entrance to the castle.

Remember, you can use Animal Instinct to know where to go next!

Defeat Stone Headsman
You will encounter a Stone Headsman as you go. Beware of its Poison Mist to avoid getting immobilized for a short time. Defeat it and continue your way to the castle.

Defeat Coeurl
A Coeurl will stop you at the castle entrance. Kill it to get inside the castle.

However, Kupka will appear shortly after defeating the Coeurl and taking Jill hostage. You will be thrown into prison during the cutscene.

Stop the Execution
Kupka ordered his men to execute Jill. Luckily, Gav is there to free you from the prison cell.

Head in front of the place and stop it from happening!

Slay all enemies
Torgal is the one who will save Jill during the cutscene. Back him up and defeat all enemies in the yard!

But be careful around the Stone Gaoler, as it is strong and can inflict a lot of damage!

Defeat the two Stone Headsman
Two Stone Headsman will spawn as the last wave of enemies in the area. Defeat them and head inside the palace!

Defeat Hugo Kupka
After fighting the two Stone Headsman, head inside the palace and look for Kupka. You'll find him in the throne room.

A cutscene will start and push you to fight afterward. Defeat Kupka twice to save Rosaria!

You will get his Titan powers once you win, and you can use them on the following quests.

Return to the Hideaway to rest and set the next course of action.

How to Beat Stone Headsman

FINAL FANTASY 16 - Capital Punishment - Defeat Stone Headsman
The Stone Headsman is an assassin-like enemy that specializes in ranged attacks to put the target to sleep or confuse them by hindering their vision. You can easily defeat it by closing the distance and hitting it until it dies!

Tips for Beating

  • Avoid Poison Mist and get out of Smokescreen
  • Close the distance as he will try to position from afar
  • Do multiple precision dodges against the Poison Mist

Coeurl is an animal that can discharge strong lighting from its body. It's also quick on its feet and hits you with a flurry of attacks. Try not to stay in one place to avoid its attack, and hit it back when you get the chance!

Tips for Beating

  • Continuously attack during Electrocharge to stop it
  • Glowing light around its body means it will attack
  • Don't stay in one place to avoid ground lighting attacks

The Stone Gaoler is an executioner that uses an axe as his main weapon. It swings its axe with precision, so try to avoid it as much as possible!

Tips for Beating

  • Attacks are easy to parry and dodge
  • Evade Execution attack until the last swing
  • Defeat weaker enemies first

Capital Punishment Boss: How to Beat Hugo Kupka

Hugo Kupka First Phase

FINAL FANTASY 16 - Capital Punishment - Kupka 1st Phase
Kupka is a close-combat boss with a fast move speed despite his body build. Go for precision dodges and counters to deal damage against him. Push his health to around 60% to start the next phase!

Tips for Beating

  • Go for counters rather than a head-on attack
  • Use Phoenix Shift to keep up with his movements
  • Save up powerful skills with long cooldowns in the second phase

Hugo Kupka Second Phase

FINAL FANTASY 16 - Capital Punishment - Kupka 2nd Phase
A lot of skills will become available for Kupka during the second phase, some are fatal and can kill you in a few hits. Prioritize dodging and only hit back when he's recovering from an attack to lessen the risk of dying.
