What Carries Over to New Game Plus?

  • Previously obtained Gear and Equipment
  • Abilities that you unlocked in previous save
  • Level and EXP progression
  • Unspent Gil
  • Unspent Ability Points
  • Unused Crafting Materials
  • Thousand Tomes progression
  • Medal of Valors collected

New Game Plus (NG+) carries over possessions, unlocked abilities, and Clive's level from the cleared save file. Note that all features that can be carried over are transferable when starting a New Game Plus save file in Final Fantasy Mode difficulty.

What Doesn't Carry Over to New Game Plus?

  • Main Quest progression
  • Side Quest progression
  • Previously unlocked Fast Travel points and map progression
  • Previously obtained items, such as Consumables, Key Items, Quest Items
  • Torgal's abilities unlocked in previous save
  • Hunt Board progression

The only exclusions to New Game Plus are items and locations tied to story progression. This means you can start out with all Eikon abilities, but you can't just travel anywhere you please. In addition, side quest rewards such as Chocobos and recipes must be unlocked again when playing New Game Plus.

The biggest change in New Game Plus (NG+) is the addition of Final Fantasy Mode, a more difficult version of the main story. If you cleared the story on Action Focused and still felt like you wanted more, this challenge adds both replayability and even some new content!

FF16 - More Powerful enemies

Enemies are far more dangerous in Final Fantasy Mode as they have different formations and may appear in different places. You won't be able to switch to either Story or Action Focused modes either, making it more challenging.

The Final Fantasy Mode of New Game Plus ups the difficulty of Arcade Mode and Chronolith Trials with Ultimaniac Mode and the Final Chronolith Trials, respectively.

How to Unlock New Game Plus

Complete the Main Story Once

FF16 - Clive

Like every other game with this feature, New Game Plus in FF16 unlocks after beating the game's main story. Players will need to use the cleared save file to start a New Game Plus playthrough, where they can choose to start in the same difficulty as before or take on the challenges of Final Fantasy Mode.

Can Be Unlocked Through Either Difficulty Setting

Unlocking New Game Plus can be done in any of the two difficulty settings.

If you're aiming to start New Game Plus and Final Fantasy Mode as soon as possible, we recommend doing your first playthrough on Story Focused mode. Otherwise, it's best to master the mechanics with Action Focused mode first.
