FF16 - Quick TIme Events Guide
Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) has Quick Time Events (QTEs) during certain fights and when enabled by a Timely Accessory. Read on to find out if FF16 has QTEs and when they appear during the game.

Does FF16 Have Quick Time Events (QTE)?

FF16 Has Quick Time Events

FF16 has quick time events (QTEs) and are prominent in boss battles, but will also be available in regular battles with a specific Timely Accessory equipped.

Quick Time Event Types and Tips

Cinematic Quick Time Events

Cinematic QTEs are the type of QTE that appear during pivotal moments in the middle of boss battles. They usually denote a shift between boss phases, or to show unique fight scenes within the battle.

Slowed Time QTE

The Slowed Time QTE is the type of QTE where the in-game scene slows down and you must press the button that shows up on the screen. You'll fail this QTE if you press the wrong button or run out of time without pressing anything.

When the screen turns blue, the QTE is called a Cinematic Strike and you must press □ to successfully perform your attack. If the screen turns red, it is a Cinematic Evasion and you must press R1 to evade the incoming attack.

Button Mash QTE

The Button Mash QTE is the type of QTE where you need to repeatedly press the button that appears on the screen. If you fail to meet the threshold of amount of button presses, you'll fail this QTE.

Timely Accessory Quick Time Events

One of the Timely Accessories, the Ring of Timely Focus, turns every fight into a Slowed Time QTE every time the player is about to get hit by an attack.

During this QTE, for a few seconds the player is allowed to dodge the attack by pressing the Dodge button.

What are Quick Time Events (QTE)?

Scenarios Where Correct Button Must Be Pressed Within a Time Window

Quick Time Events are prompts that require you to press (or repeatedly press) the button shown on the screen within a short time window. If you fail, there are negative consequences, such as getting damaged or failing to execute your attack.

What Happens If You Miss QTEs?

Missing a Quick Time Even prompt will result in dire consequences. For example, missing the QTE in the Suparna and Chirada fight in the Battle Demo will greatly damage Clive. Be sure to pay attention and press those buttons!

Cannot Be Missed During Tutorial Mode

The exception for this is the tutorial for Cinematic QTEs during the fight with Morbol. You can't fail these QTEs; the timer will just loop until you press the correct button.

Does Timing Matter in QTEs?

The timing on Quick Time Events do not have to be precise. You just need to hit the button before the time runs out.

This means that pressing the assigned button early or right when the timer runs out will lead to the same outcome, with no bonuses in damage whatsoever.

Titan's Abilities Require Perfect Timing to Get Damage Bonuses

Perfectly Timed Mistimed

To get the full potential of Titan's abilities, however, you need proper timing. To do this, after pressing and holding the buttons for either an Upheaval or Windup, release the button when it reaches the red zone of the gauge. This will grant you a bonus, maximizing your damage output!

Try out Titan's and the other Eikon's abilities in the Eikonic Challenge mode available after completing the prologue demo!
