The Spice of Life Walkthrough and Rewards

The Spice of Life is a Side Quest unlocked during Chapter 9 of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth). Read on to learn more about The Spice of Life, how to find Rock Salts and Magonga Mushrooms, as well as the available rewards for completing the side quest.

Complete Teach Me, Great Warrior

You can unlock The Spice of Life after completing the side quest, Teach Me, Great Warrior. Unlocking these side quests requires you to beat the main story boss for Chapter 9, Crimson Mare Mk. II.

How to Complete The Spice of Life

1. Collect ingredients for Cissnei's soup.
2. Look for the Produce Peddler.
3. Follow Melon to Torgan's Farm.
4. Follow and protect Melon.
5. Collect 3 Rock Salts.
6. Pick 3 Magonga Mushrooms.
7. Deliver the ingredients to Cissnei.

Collect Ingredients for Cissnei's Soup

Talk to Cissnei at her house by the entrance of Gongaga Village. She will be found cooking and will need Cloud and Aerith's help to collect ingredients for her soup!

Look for the Produce Peddler

Step outside the house and head to the main gate. A dog will be surrounded by people and you will learn that this dog, Melon, works for Torgan on his farm, collecting payments for the produce the village buys.

Follow Melon to Torgan’s Farm

Follow Melon to Torgan's Farm. Torgan's not very fond of city folk, but Aerith manages to convince him to sell the first ingredient, Torgan's Vegetables.

He will suggest two more ingredients to collect: Rock Salts and Magonga Mushrooms. He then tells Melon to help you with your search.

Follow and Protect Melon

Melon will lead you to the second ingredient, the Rock Salts. The path you will take will lead to fiends, so protect Melon at all costs!

At the end of the path where the ingredients will be Grandhorns and a Gorgon Mane. Take out the Grandhorns first then be strategic with the Gorgon Manes. To defeat it, make sure you have the Fire materia equipped and use it while it's preparing its Petrifying Shot. This is the only opening you can get for Gorgon Mane, as it will always dodge your normal attacks.

Collect 3 Rock Salts

Once the area is clear of fiends, collect the Rock Salts in the area. When in doubt, refer to Torgan's sketch by pressing the left-directional button.

Pick 3 Magonga Mushrooms

After collecting the Rock Salts, the last ingredient Cissnei needs to perfect her soup is Magonga Mushrooms. For these, you need to have your Chocobo sniff out the scent by pressing and holding the Up directional button and following the arrow to where the scent is. There will be 3 total mushrooms in the area, so start sniffing!

Magonga Mushroom Picking Minigame

When picking a Magonga Mushroom, a minigame will ensue. You need to correctly guess the order in which the mushroom should be plucked. The portion that has the most give should be tugged first and the one with the least give should be last.

The first mushroom starts with 3 portions and will increase by one for each mushroom you collect.

Note two things:

• There is no set pattern for the portions to be plucked; if you want to pluck the mushrooms perfectly, make sure to make a save before you try and get it.
• Regardless if you plucked the mushroom perfectly or not, there will be no difference in rewards other than the star rating for the soup Cissnei will make.

How to Beat Gorgon Mane

Gorgon Manes are able to dodge almost all attacks while they are in the air. The key is to wait until they trigger any ability, such as Petrifying Shot or Thundaga, before hitting them with a Fire spell to pressure them.

Once pressured barrage them with abilities that help buildup stagger, and any damage abilities should finish them off easily after due to their low HP.

How to Beat Gorgon Mane

Deliver the Ingredients to Cissnei

Once all 3 ingredients are collected, go back to Gongaga and deliver them to Cissnei. She and Aerith will then proceed to cook the mushroom soup.

Increase Favorability With Aerith

Completing The Spice of Life will also increase your friendship with Aerith. This will affect the events that will occur when you visit the Gold Saucer later in the game.

Romance and Relationship Guide

Telluric Scriptures Vol. XI Dropped by Gorgon Manes in Hard Mode

While playing in Hard Mode, defeating all the Gorgon Manes will reward you the Telluric Scriptures Vol. XI for Aerith. You can access Hard Mode after completing your first playthrough of the game in any difficulty.
