FF7 Rebirth

Chapter Select and New Game Plus Explained

FF7 Rebirth Chapter Select

Players have access to Chapter Select after completing the game which allows them to replay any chapter in a New Game Plus mode in FF7 Remake (Final Fantasy 7 Remake). Learn how Chapter Select works, what carries over, and everything unlocked after completing the game.

How to Unlock Chapter Select and New Game Plus

Unlocked on Completing the Game

Chapter Select

When you complete the game on any difficulty setting, you'll unlock Chapter Select, which allows you to jump to any Chapter in the game from your completed save file.

Note that Chapter Select is only available as a New Game Plus-esque system via your completed save file, meaning that you cannot use it to play any chapter from a fresh New Game. If you start a New Game or continue from a save file which has not completed the game, you will not be able to access Chapter Select from that file.

Chapter Select Explained

What Carries Over?

Carries Over Does Not Carry Over
✔︎ Character and Party Stats
✔︎ Relationship Levels
✔︎ Materia, Equipment, Items
✔︎ Queen's Blood Cards & Rank
✔︎ Manuscripts
✔︎ World Intel, Enemy Intel
✔︎ Side Quest Progress (can be turned off)
✖︎ Story Progression
✖︎ Story-tied Chocobo unlocks (Chapters 2 and 9)

All of the features related to your party are carried over, including any Romance progress through choices and other events. The only aspects which do not carry over are those involved in the story of the chapter which you are redoing, such as Chocobos obtained as part of a chapter's events.

New Changes Can Carry Over to Other Chapters

Everything you achieve during a chapter in Chapter Select will be carried over to subsequent chapters, even if you do not complete that chapter. For example, if you make a positive choice during a conversation with Barret, then immediately go to a different chapter in Chapter Select, the update will still carry over, unlike in FF7 Remake where players were required to complete a chapter to make any permanent progress or changes.

Negative Changes Are Not Tracked

If you fail to complete a certain Romance objective, or make a choice during a conversation which would lower a character's Relationship level, it will not be counted. The Relationship value only keeps changes which would improve a character's Relationship level.

Choose Your Quest Completion Status on Starting a Chapter

Players can choose their completion status on Side Quests upon starting a chapter. This allows players to use Chapter Select to either aim for 100% completion, or fully experience a chapter including its Side Quests.

Question Progression Reset Option Explanation
Retain Current Quest Completion Data Allows you to keep your Side Quest progress from your current playthrough, meaning that if you start a New Game and finish the game again, only the Side Quest progress from that playthrough will be included.
Restore Previously Completed Quest Data Allows you to keep your Side Quest progress from any previous playthroughs, meaning that even if you last played and finished the game again from a New Game, progress from any previous completion will also be included.
Reset All Quest Data Allows you to start from scratch and replay all Side Quests.

With Chapter Select, you can revisit previous social events or dating scenes and explore all the possible outcomes for each response. This wasn't possible in previous games, where you had to save and reload to see each result, but you can do that here to achieve the best results for your chosen romantic partner.
