Crunch-Off is a minigame in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth) that requires you to beat bodybuilders in a series of sit-up battles. Read on to find out how to unlock Crunch-Off, how to play, tips and tricks, and rewards for completing it!
List of Contents
In Crunch-Off, players need to press a sequence of buttons in order at a certain rhythm while performing sit-ups. This rhythm will start off slow, but will get progressively faster. In addition, the button sequence on the screen will fade away, leaving you to follow the rhythm by yourself.
If players make a mistake, Tifa will max out and take a break, leaving her incapable of doing another sit-up for a short period. Afterwards, you will continue as you did at the start.

To ace in a Crunch-Off, it will be useful to memorize the button sequences of each sit-ups beforehand. Normally, it will start with the first button sequence, but should you opt to retry the minigame from the start, it may switch to the second button sequence.
The button sequence will not change in the middle of a Crunch-Off.
When the Golden Ring appears in the sequence, it will require you to mash the button. Should this be the case, the button sequence will reappear on the screen to notify you of which button you need to press repeatedly.
When the Green Ring appears in the sequence, it will require you to half press the button until the circle fills up, and finish by fully pressing down the button. You don't need to release the button between the half press and the full press.
If you're having trouble with this one, err on the side of pressing too lightly rather than too heavily, as there's no penalty for pressing too lightly, while pressing too heavily will cause Tifa to wipe out.
The default setting for Adaptive Triggers sets a significant amount of resistance for the L2 and R2 triggers, making them harder to press down. As you are required to press these buttons repeatedly for this Minigame, it's recommended to navigate to System > Options > Gameplay > Trigger Effect Function and set the value to 0 to make the game significantly easier.
Keep in mind that even your opponents can max out, allowing you to get ahead. Keep an eye out for these openings to crunch more than your opponent and be sure to not make a mistake to maximize the opportunity.
Making sure that you're pressing the right buttons is way better than risking an error by rushing things. That is not to say that you should slow down completely. Find the maximum speed you're comfortable in and stick to that.
This tip may seem unorthodox, but saying the button sequence out loud as you press them actually works wonders for remembering the sequence, allowing you to focus on speed.
The buttons will be may remain the same (left and right toggles), but speaking the buttons might just come in handy. This is also especially helpful when the buttons disappear from the screen.
Each stage of Crunch-Off will pit you against bodybuilders, each stronger than the last. To get the ultimate prize, you need to outnumber their crunches, which leaves less margin for error.
Jules will be your final opponent in Crunch-Off. The button sequences may be randomized each try, but Jules will always end around 49 to 50 crunches. You will need to reach 51 or higher to defeat him.
To unlock Crunch-Off, you need to reach Chapter 7 and complete the “Bodybuilders in a Bind” Side Quest in the Corel Region. The quest-giver is Jules, an old friend from Midgar, who is located at a gym southwest of Costa del Sol.
The Crunch-Off minigame can be repeated even after finishing the quest.
