What Does Magic Attack Do?

What Does Magic Attack Do?

Determines Character's Magic Damage

Magic Attack determines the damage you can deal using various spells and abilities. The higher the number on the stat, the more magic damage can be dealt with from abilities, spells and materia.

Determines HP Amount of Heal Spells

A unique property to the Magic Attack stat is that it is also the basis of how effective a healing spell is. The higher the Magic Attack stat, the more percentage of health a character can give with healing magic.

How to Raise Magic Attack

Equip Weapons and Accessories

Weapons

Weapons provide an innate boost to main stats like Attack and Magic Attack. Weapons like Aerith's Wizard Rod or Red XIII's Mythril Collar provide stat increases to their wearer as long as they are equipped.

Accessories also provide increases to passive stats such as Magic Attack. Equipping accessories like the Earrings can increase your overall magic damage.

Aerith

Most of Aerith's strengths come from her ability to cast a wide selection of offensive, defensive, healing, and support spells, making her the de facto best spellcaster in the game. Her slow basic attacks makes her ATB Gauge generation slow, but she makes up for it by not needing to use her ATB all that often.

Red XIII

While Red XIII acts as more of a tank due to his high HP, he does come with his own set of powerful spells worth using. He is a great pick against grounded enemies thanks to his fast basic attacks, and his play style revolving the Vengeance Mode is more of a defensive character compared to Aerith's prowess over all magic types.
