Restorative Items are consumable items that help restore the HP or MP of your party members. During combat, you will have to open up the Commands Menu and consume an ATB charge in able for you to use an item.
When restorative items are used outside of battle, ATB charges are safe from being depleted. You can also consume a restorative item multiple times without having to leave the Commands Menu.

Restorative items can usually be found in treasure chests, boxes, and enemy drops. Stockpiling on restorative items can help you restore both your HP and MP in a pinch, which can prevent any unnecessary game overs.
Recovery Spells can be used to restore HP in battle. In addition to expending MP to cast Recovery Spells, you will also need to consume ATB charges when using spells during battle.
Access to Recovery Spells such as Cure or Cura are usually granted by Healing Materia that can be equipped on your character. When you have access to Healing Materia, simply open the Main Menu and select the Materia & Equipment tab.
The Chakra Materia can heal the character who equips it and consumes ATB charges instead of MP. Chakra can only be used during combat.
Similar to FF7 Remake, you could fully restore your HP and MP by resting on benches or lodgings you find throughout the game.
It is recommended to use these locations as much as possible to keep your party in optimal shape while reducing the need to deplete your inventory or MP by using Restorative Items and casting Recovery Spells.
Chocobo Stops function as both rest points and fast travel points that require the Cushion item for you to restore HP and MP.
Use Restorative Items or Recovery Spells by pressing the X button on your controller to open the Commands Menu. From there, select either the Spells or Items tab to use the item or spell of your choosing.
You could also set shortcuts for commands you wish to access instantly such as spells or items so that you'll be able to restore your HP or MP when dealing with a difficult enemy or boss.
Open the Main Menu, and select the Combat Settings tab. From there, choose the commands you wish to designate with shortcuts and apply them during combat.
