Esoteric Secrets of the Elders Walkthrough and Chocograss Locations

Esoteric Secrets of the Elders is a Side Quest that can be unlocked during Chapter 11 of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth). Read on to learn more about how to unlock Esoteric Secrets of the Elders, all Chocograss locations, as well as the available rewards.

How to Unlock Esoteric Secrets of the Elders

Reach Chapter 11 in the Main Story

You will be able to unlock the Esoteric Secrets of the Elders side quest by reaching Chapter 11 of the main storyline in FF7 Rebirth. From there, accept the request upon reaching the Community Noticeboard in Nibelheim.

Head to the Chocobo Sage's Manor in Nibel

Head to the Chocobo Sage's Manor by travelling east from the Activation Intel 3: Beacon Hill Tower on the map. From there, talk with Billy and unlock a cutscene to begin the side quest.

How to Complete Esoteric Secrets of the Elders

1. Talk with Billy on the Chocobo Sage's Manor
2. Complete Chocobo Intel: Feathered Waverunners
3. Return Back to the Manor
4. Collect Chocograss
5. Return Back to the Manor Again
6. Win the Zoom de Chocobo Minigame

Talk with Billy on the Chocobo Sage's Manor

Once you've accepted the request on the Community Noticeboard, head towards the direction of the sidequest of the map and talk with Billy to begin the side quest.

Complete Chocobo Intel: Feathered Waverunners

Before continuing with the quest, you will need to start a Wrangle a Chocobo minigame catch a Chocobo named Selena. Note that you can complete this Chocobo Intel segment before accepting this quest, allowing you to skip to the next part.

Sneakily Climb Up the Hill

When starting the minigame, try to sneak through the tall grass that leads to the elevated surface on your left. Once you've reached the top, you will be able to see Selena below you.

Grab Several Chocobo Bait

Start grabbing the Chocobo Bait in the area. You will need several of these to lead Selena towards the entrance from whence you came.

Throw the Chocobo Bait to Navigate Selena

Throw the Chocobo Baits and use them to lead Selena around the field and across deflated cacti. Make sure that Selena doesn't come into contact with any inflated cactus or else she will retreat. This part of the minigame requires timing, since the cacti inflate and deflate at specific intervals.

Wrangle Selena

After you've led Selena towards the entrance and away from the field of cacti, head back down and press triangle to wrangle the Chocobo.

Return to the Manor

After you've wrangled Selena in the minigame, return back to the Chocobo Sage's Manor and talk with the Chocobo Sage. After the cutscene plays out, you will need to collect Chocograss.

Collect Chocograss

All Chocograss Locations
	Chocograss will be floating in the air. When in the water on your Ocean Chocobo, hold L2 to use Chocojet to launch yourself up.

Collect 30 Chocograss that are floating in the air above bodies of water. You need to collect about 30 Chocograss in order to complete this objective.

Collect All 50 Chocograss to Get More Rewards

While 30 is the required Chocograss for the quest, you can collect all 50 Chocograss to receive extra rewards from the Chocograss Collector at the Chocobo Sage's Manor. One of these rewards is Gjallarhorn, one of Cait Sith's best weapons.

Return to the Manor Again

After collecting all 30 Chocograss, report back to the Chocobo Sage. During the cutscene, he will propose that you undergo a trial. The trial is a Zoom de Chocobo minigame, and you will have to beat the Chocobo Sage to complete it.

Win Zoom de Chocobo Racing Minigame

During the race, it is recommended that you pick up Speed Balloons and Dash Balloons to increase the speed of your Chocobo. We also recommend increasing your Chocobo's stats with the Merc set, which is obtained from the side quest The Hardest Sell.
