List of Contents

As seen in the first part of FF7 Rebirth's Demo, players will be able to control Sephiroth on select battles and gain access to his blade moveset and materia.
However, the events in this chapter are only flashbacks of Cloud telling the story to the others. This means that Sephiroth won't actually be joining the party and him being playable is exclusive to the Nibelheim episode only.

Chapter 1 Fall of a Hero |
||
| Official Introduction | ||
| A former SOLDIER: 1st class of legendary renown, he is said to have died in the line of duty in Nibelheim five years ago. This is proven untrue when he appears at the Shinra Building and absconds with a research specimen known as "Jenova." He now toys with Cloud at every opportunity, seeking to change the course of destiny and rule the planet. | ||

Sephiroth is the final boss of FF7 Remake. Although he is not actively present during the early chapters of the game, Sephiroth appears in Cloud's hallucinations, urging the latter to cling to hatred to gain strength.
During the final confrontation between Sephiroth and Cloud, the former disappears in a magic explosion, presumably still alive.

Sephiroth is the main Antagonist of FF7 Rebirth. From his madness, Sephiroth turned against everything he fought for to achieve godlike power.
During his mission in Nibelheim five years ago, Sephiroth discovered the truth of his origin and went mad—burning down the town and murdering the people in it, including Cloud's mother. He disappeared after the attack, which Shinra tried to cover up by announcing that Sephiroth died during a top-secret mission.

Similar to Cloud, Sephiroth also uses a sword called Masamune on normal attacks and Abilities. Hitting enemies with normal attacks fills up his Aura Charge gauge. Once filled, Sephiroth can use Pierce or other Finishers as a follow-up to a combo or an Ability.
| Button / Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Switches from Retaliation Stance to Battle Stance |
Instead of a "block" button, pressing the R1 button makes Sephiroth switch to Retaliation Stance. You can then press the square button just before a physical attack hits to parry it, negating the attack and dealing damage to the attacker.
Take note that parrying won't work on magic and ranged attacks.
| Sephiroth Combat Tips |
|---|
With a full Aura Charge, Sephiroth's Finisher will change during a combo, from Sword Dance to Telluric Fury.
Pressing the triangle button after Hell's Gate unleashes Infernal Gate.
Sephiroth knows a few more tricks that he can use through his Finisher. After dodging with a Warp, using an Ability, or unleashing a Limit Break, you can press the Finisher button to launch an extra attack depending on the last move used.
The Aura Charge gauge is also present in Retaliation Stance, but it only fills up for every attack parried. Sephiroth can unleash a counterattack called Retaliation with a full Aura Charge or a more powerful one called Counter after a perfect parry.
Sephiroth has fast attacks, making it easy to use his combos, finishers, and weapon abilities. Remain aggressive to gain access to powerful attacks and finish fights faster.
Sephiroth has access to high-level Materia which allows him to use high-tier spells that can save allies from fainting or deal massive damage against enemies.
| Pierce |
A special attack can be performed directly. After accumulating aura, dash to the enemy with a piercing attack to close the distance and start a combo. |

|---|---|
| Zanshin | Launch rending waves of energy at an enemy. Can use while airborne. |
| Hell's Gate | Descend from the skies and impale an enemy. |
Players can only use a few of Sephiroth's Abilities during the first chapter. For his weapon abilities, he can use Zanshin to slash enemies from afar and Hell's Gate to plunge into an enemy with his sword in an oddly familiar manner.
Fill up the Limit Break gauge by staggering enemies to use Octaslash and finish an enemy with eight powerful slashes!
