Data Disc or Play Disc? Which Disc to Insert First

Which Disc to Put in First?

Put in the Data Disc to Install the Game

When loading Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for the first time, you will need to put in the Data Disc first. This will install essential game files you need to play the game. If you decide to play on a different PS5, you will also need to reinstall the game with the Data Disc.

Put in the Play Disc to Play the Game

After the Data Disc is done installing, you can then put in the Play Disc to start the game. Now, you would only need to put in the Play Disc whenever you want to start playing the game.

Insert the Play Disc Instead

If you put in the Data Disc first, you may be greeted with an error screen telling you to insert the Data Disc first. To fix the issue, you will need to put the Play Disc instead to install the game files. Afterwards, you can insert the Data Disc to play the game.

Official Acknowledgement from Square Enix

There is an issue where the labels for both discs have been swapped due to a manufacturing issue. This has been officially acknowledged by the Japanese Square Enix Account. Although, it is currently unclear whether this issue affects other regions. Stay tuned for more updates!
