Luck is a stat in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth) that directly affects your characters' critical hit and Steal success rates. Learn more about the Luck stat, what it does, and how to increase it in this guide!
List of Contents
The Luck (LU) stat directly affects how often Cloud and his companions score critical hits on opponents. The higher a party member's luck is, the more likely they will deal critical damage to targets.
Critical hits deal 1.2x more damage than an ordinary hit. This applies to both Physical and Magic damage, elemental or not. However, items and reflected enemy attacks cannot be affected by the luck stat and will not result in critical hits.
The Steal command, which is accessible only by equipping characters with the Steal Materia, enables party members to pilfer items and gil from enemies. However, it isn't guaranteed and they may come back empty-handed.
The Luck stat can improve your chances of stealing an item successfully.
Each monster presents different Steal success rates. Some monsters are harder to steal from. Do take note that once you've stolen something from an enemy, it's highly likely that they won't have anything left for you to take.
You can view a character's Luck, Critical Hit Rate and Damage, and all their stats by accessing the Party Screen in the menu. This is not to be confused with the Combat Settings screen in which you can edit your party composition.
The Luck stat, much like any other stat, increases as you level up. To gain more Luck, simply farm for EXP by defeating Fiends, completing Combat Simulations, and completing side quests among other means.
The Luck Up Materia increases the equipping character's Luck by a certain amount depending on its level. To gain more Luck from the Luck Up Materia, players must stock up on AP which can also be acquired through defeating monsters.
Once you accumulate enough AP, the Luck Up Materia will level up, giving the equipping teammate more Luck. The Luck Up Materia can also be purchased in shops and vending machines.
