Inflict enough damage while it's in the air. Hit Gigatrice with an element-infused Cyclone.
|
In order to Pressure and knock Gigatrice to the ground in Phase 1, you will need to deal enough damage to it. Exploit its Fire weakness to easily knock it to the ground and build up Stagger.
During Phase 2, Gigatrice gets a damage immunity shield called Wind Barrier. The only way to dispel it and knock Gigatrice to the ground is to infuse a cyclone with Elemental magic and have it hit Gigatrice as it flies around the arena.

Gigatrice Boss Fight Tips |
---|
|
You can get a Barrage Blaster weapon from a chest as your party climbs Mt. Corel. Equip it to Barret to unlock the Lifesaver ability and use it while fighting the boss. It will increase his HP and absorb damage his allies take during battle.
Lifesaver lasts for a long time. It's best to focus your healing on Barret to ensure he survives and tanks more damage for the team. You can equip his Selfish Recovery if you have unlocked it to increase the healing he will receive in battle!
Fire and Poison are the main weaknesses of Gigatrice. Make sure your characters can apply those elements to pressure Gigatrice and tear down its HP faster.
Wind Barrier will make Gigatrice immune to most damage but not from Poison. Use Poison spells or attacks to damage it until the barrier subsides.
Dust Devil is a large cyclone that deals a ton of damage and covers a lot of space in the middle of the arena. You can easily dodge this by quickly going to the corner of the arena once you see the prompt.
Gigatrice's dangerous attacks are its Petrifying and Tornado attacks as they are unblockable. Dodge them at all costs to avoid getting damaged and potentially dying. You might also get a petrification status effect if you get hit by its Petrifying attacks consecutively.
IInfuse Gigatrice's cyclones with elemental magic. If the elemental cyclone hits Gigatrice, it will apply Pressure. However, be sure to keep your distance from those cyclones, as you can still get damaged by them!
Gold Needles can cure the petrification status inflicted by Gigatrice. Try to bring a few before fighting the boss to be ready when your character gets petrified during battle.

Note: We gave Yuffie ATB Stagger since she will be the only character that can reliably stagger Gigatrice. The bonus ATB granted by this materia will allow you to squeeze in a Fiery Banishment III and Firaga cast within each stagger phase.
If you still don't have an additional Magnify, you can opt to go for a linked Magnify + Healing and Magic Focus + Time. Given that the Haste cast can only be single-target with this setup, have Barret only cast it on Yuffie throughout the fight.
Your win condition for this fight will be Yuffie and her ability to double-cast Firagas. To start the fight, have Yuffie cast both Doppelganger and Fire Ninjutsu once she has enough ATB. However, before using Doppelganger, switch to a different character so Gigatrice doesn't target Yuffie during the animation.
Once you're set up, it's as easy as spamming your ranged Ninjutsu magic to build up enough ATB for Firaga. Don't try to fight Gigatrice in melee since Yuffie is squishy. Maintain your distance and conserve your HP so that ATB charges aren't wasted on heals.
Barret will be in a supporting role for the fight, casting Haste for the party and tanking damage using Lifesaver. Make sure he always has a spare ATB charge in case you need to cast a Magnified Heal or Arise (if one of your party members go down).
If you need a quick ATB top up, have Barret use Overcharge. This should fill up at least 1 ATB bar for you to use without having to spam basic attacks. Remember, you'll want to be piloting Yuffie as much as possible throughout the fight.
During Phase 1, spam Fire Ninjutsu attacks to build ATB. Once you have 2 ATB, double-cast Firaga using Doppelganger to push Gigatrice into a Pressured state. When in this state, spam more Firagas until you Stagger the large bird.
In addition to Fire, Poison is highly effective against Gigatrice. If you have any spare ATB charges on Barret or Tifa, consider casting Bioga early in the fight to maximize the damage ticks of the poison while Yuffie hits Gigatrice with elemental Fire attacks.
The best thing about Firaga spam is that that it allows you to build up to Fiery Banishment 3, easily. Once you stagger Gigatrice, immediately queue up a Fiery Banishment III to chunk away at its HP. Follow it up with a double-cast of Firaga after building up 2 ATB.
This same damage rotation will be used once Gigatrice enters Phase 2 unless you run out of ATB charges. When you do run out though, make sure to immediately switch to Tifa since she's you're next best DPS during stagger phases.
Note: Make sure Yuffie is the one that staggers Gigatrice since the bonus ATB from ATB Stagger will allow you to squeeze in both Fiery Banishment III and Firaga within the same Stagger phase.
If you run out ATB charges on Yuffie during a Stagger phase, immediately switch over to Tifa. Spam True Strike as well as the Unbridled Strength + Omnistrike combo to deal a ton of physical damage while Gigatrice is down.
Gigatrice likes using a ton of melee attacks that have wonky hitbox tracking. To avoid taking too much damage, remember to block any and all melee attacks. Steadfast Block should help out here, since it reduces the damage taken while also giving you an ATB boost per blocked hit.
Dust Devil is Gigatrice's strongest attack. When it starts, it will conjure small dust cyclones that spawn where your character is standing. If any of them end up hitting your character, you will get stunlocked and the large Dust Devil will be guaranteed to hit them.
To avoid this one-hit-kill attack, spam dodges as soon as you see the Dust Devil text appear above Gigatrice. Once the small cyclones are gone, pay attention to the AoE of Dust Devil. Exit its affected area to avoid getting knocked out.
In Phase 2, you will need to hit Gigatrice with 2 Element-infused cyclones in order to dispel its Wind Barrier. This is the only way to knock it down and remove its damage immunity. However, targeting the cyclones is tricky since you can only lock on them if Gigatrice is right next to the cyclone.
To bypass the difficulty of targeting the cyclones, position Yuffie behind one while locked on Gigatrice. When ready, cast a regular Fire spell. Its trajectory should hit the Cyclone, infusing it with Fire before it can even become targetable.
Remember, we're preemptively lighting them on Fire to avoid the cyclones being infused by Gigatrice's Petrifying Breath (which it does regularly whenever it's beside a cyclone).

Details | |
An avian creature that nests on Mt. Corel. Exposure to mako has mutated it beyond all recognition. It loves to feed on soft, newly born chicks, and will not allow anything to come between it and its favorite snack. Inflicting enough damage while it is in the air will pressure it and force it to descend. Using elemental magic on cyclones it conjures will imbue them with elemental energy. It will become pressured if hit by one of these. |

You say have Barret use Arise, but didn’t put the revival materia in his build.
