Once at the Party Member Change screen, select the character you want to change. You can also organize the party's Backline or reserve members. Keep in mind that each party can only contain five characters!

Locked characters mean that they can't be replaced and must be in the party.

Other Ways to Change Party Members

  1. Commands Menu Outside of Combat
  2. Hold Square Before a Boss Fight

Commands Menu Outside of Combat

A good shortcut to remember is by pressing PS4 - X Button.png to bring up the commands menu and pressing PS4 - R1 Button.png to cycle between 3 parties.

You can set these parties up in the Edit Party screen in Combat Settings. Using this shortcut will save you time from having to go to the Combat Settings menu and manually changing your party.

Hold Down Square Before a Boss Fight

Before major boss fights happen, a PS4 - Square Button.png will appear on the bottom-left corner of the screen. When it does, hold down the button to enter the game menu right before the battle commences.

This way, you can edit your party and equipment before you engage the boss, potentially saving you from defeat due to having the wrong party members.

Can You Change Party Members During Battle?

Cannot Change Members in Battle

In regards to changing party members, remember that you can't change party members while in a battle. Be sure to check your party and its members before fighting a boss battle or a strong enemy!

You can also flee a battle so you can change your party members in Combat Settings.
