Land powerful attacks during Neener, Neener. Destroy Anuran Suppressor's Legs in Phase 2.
|
To Pressure Anuran Suppressor, you will need to land powerful abilities when Palmer starts taunting using his Neener, Neener move. This is easier said than done given how rare he does the move throughout Phase 1.
During Phase 2, it will be much easier to Pressure Anuran Suppressor. Simply criple its Left and Right Legs to Pressure it. This allows you to quickly build up the Stagger gauge compared to Phase 1.
Note: Using Synergy Abilities or Limit Breaks against Anuran Suppressor will flip it. While flipped over, it will take more damage when attacked. However, do note that this is inconsistent though as it usually gets back up rather quickly.

Recommended Party Setup | |
---|---|
Yuffie | 【Weakness Exploit / Magic DPS】 ・Can be the main damage dealer during the non-Staggered phase by using Lightning Materia and Lightning Ninjutsu to exploit the boss's weakness. ・Ranged Ninjutsu attacks gives you plenty of time to dodge or block attacks. |
Cloud | 【Punisher】 ・Main damage dealer after the boss is staggered or flipped over. |
Red XIII | 【Tank / Support】 ・Can be usedto take the aggro and block attacks, charging the Vengeance Gauge in the process. ・Cast or use healing items for the team. |
Materia | Effect |
---|---|
Lightning | ・Ability to cast Lightning magic, which is the only weakness of Anuran Suppressor.
・Can be equipped to all characters. |
Phoenix | ・Can be equipped on Yuffie to boost her Magic Attack stat. ・Can be summoned for Heals, Arise, and Reraise casts. Great for players struggling to stay alive during Phase 2. |
Titan | ・Provides good stat bonuses for the tank. Can be equipped for the stat boosts alone. |
Healing | ・Heal a single ally in battle.
・Best equipped on Yuffie or Cloud since they can easily generate ATB. |
Prayer | ・Heal all allies in battle.
・Best equipped on your main character since it requires 2 ATB to use consistently. |
HP Up | ・Increase the HP of a character.
・Can be equipped to all characters. |
Steadfast Block | ・Gain ATB when blocking attacks.
・Can be equipped to all characters. |
Precision Defense Focus | ・Improves the functionality of blocking with perfect timing.
・Works best when paired with Steadfast Block Materia. ・Can be equipped to all characters. |
Level Boost | ・Boosts the level of a Materia. ・Best linked with Lightning or Healing Materia (depending on your needs). |
Anuran Suppressor Boss Fight Tips |
---|
|
You are guaranteed to flip over Anuran Suppressor if you use Synergy Abilities or Limit Breaks against it. Once it's flipped over, it will take more damage than normal while remaining immobile for a few seconds.
However, since this does require charged Synergy bars and Limit Break gauges, mileage will vary depending on your builds and how long the fight has progressed. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to proc Pressure outside of Phase 2.
Anuran Suppressor is weak against Lightning damage. Equip Lightning Materia and use Thunder magic to shred its HP faster. Yuffie can also use Lightning Ninjutsu to ensure her ranged attacks deal Lightning elemental damage on hit.
Note: While it is viable to summon Ramuh for extra Lightning damage against Anuran Suppressor, these 1★ Summon Materia will start scaling poorly this late into the main story. Consider using Titan or Phoenix given their better stats and utility.
Anuran Suppressor will automatically flip over after doing Electroshock or Amphibian Laser during Phase 1. Make sure to move away from those attacks and punish Anuran Suppressor before it recovers. In Phase 2, it will no longer flip over when using these attacks.
Note: Amphibian Laser stuns characters that get hit by it. If you notice that you won't be able to escape its AoE, make sure to Block (R1) in order to negate the stun. You'll still take damage, but the character will not be stunned in the process.
Palmer's Neener, Neener taunt applies a Fury debuff on your entire party. Fury increases your ATB charge rate while also increasing the damage you take by 50%. Make the most of it by spamming ATB commands, Lightning spells, and Heals while it's active.
Note: The first Neener, Neener will not allow you to target Palmer yet since it functions as a cutscene. You will need to wait for succeeding casts of the move in order to punish him for taunting your party.
You can target Palmer after the first time he uses Neener, Neener. Once you see the Open hatch and Neener, Neener prompts, ready your abilities to hit Palmer and apply pressure to Anuran Suppressor. Repeat the process until you stagger Anuran Suppressor!
Once the second phase starts, Palmer won't come out of the hatch anymore while doing his Neener, Neener move. You will still get a chance to damage the Anuran Suppressor, as it will be in place as it performs the move, but you won't be able to pressure it.
Destroy the legs of Anuran Suppressor during the second phase to prevent it from moving around quickly, stop a few of its attacks, and force it to flip over. The legs are quite tough, but they should let you hit Anuran Suppressor freely once you take them out!
Eradication Ray is a large laser beam attack by Anuran Suppressor. It deals a ton of damage and can one-shot your characters if hit, especially on Hard Mode.
Unlike its other moves, Eradication Ray has exceptional tracking when dodging from afar. In order to avoid it easily, get close to Anuran Suppressor, before spamming dodge to the left or right of it.

Note: If you already have the third Magnify Materia from completing Brutal Challenge: Hellions' Intonement, you can swap out Steadfast Block and Prayer from Yuffie's build to get another linked Magnify and Heal combo for a better set of heals.
Ability | Setup Explanation |
---|---|
Radiant Ward | Grants Damage Immunity while casting a spell and increases Aerith's ATB charge rate due to the buffed basic attacks. |
Arcane Ward | Allows Yuffie to cast Thundaga 4 times if Doppelganger is active. |
Transcendence | Allows Aerith to passively build up to Transcendence II, giving her a damage option during the Stagger phase. |
This fight is all about setting up your burst damage for when Anuran Suppressor gets Staggered. When the fight starts, cast a Magnified Haste using Aerith to boost the whole party's ATB generation. Once the buff is up, switch to Yuffie and cast Doppelganger.
Next, switch back to Aerith. This time, take your time and build up her ATB charges. As you get charges, cast the following abilities in this order: Radiant Ward, Arcane Ward, then finally Transcendence.
To maximize your damage output before the first Stagger phase, make sure to time your Thundaga casts for when Anuran Suppressor falls over. During Phase 1, it will automatically fall over after it uses Electroshock, Amphibian Laser, Steamroll, Snap Kick, and Time Bomb Scatter.
However, it must be stressed that exploiting the toppled over bonus damage is not optimal given how quick Anuran Suppressor gets up. You're better off spamming Thundaga until you Stagger the boss before thinking about doing any serious damage to it.
Anuran Suppressor Damage Threshold |
---|
The perfect damage rotation should allow you to deplete 70% of its HP in one Stagger phase. After dropping to 30% HP, the boss will stop taking damage until it goes to Phase 2. Normally though, taking away 50% of its HP should be good enough. |
During Phase 1, the only goal is to deplete enough of Anuran Suppressor's HP before it ends its first Stagger phase. Use a combination of Thundaga, True Strike, Thunderous Banishment III, and Transcendence II to deal as much damage as possible.
After Yuffie casts her spells, immediately switch over to Tifa to for easy damage. Spam True Strike while Anuran Suppressor is staggered to take away massive chunks of its HP.
However, if you plan to stick to spells but increase its Stagger damage multiplier, you can go for Omnistrike spam as it has the quickest animation of the 3 chi strikes.
Before the first Stagger phase comes to an end, make sure to cast a magnified Curaga in order to prepare for Phase 2. Similarly, make sure to re-cast Doppelganger and a magnified Haste in order to refresh their timers before hitting the next phase.
While not exclusive to a single phase, it will spam Amphibian Laser a lot more during Phase 2. Make sure to Block (R1) if you think you won't make it out of the AoE in time. Despite the damage, blocking allows you to avoid being stunned by this move.
During Phase 2, a lot of the boss moves will be very deadly for your party members. To lessen Anuran Suppressor's active time on the field, use Yuffie, her Doppelganger, and the Arcane Ward you set up earlier to quadcast Thundaga and destroy each of its legs.
Tip: As soon as you start casting Thundaga on Yuffie, switch over to Aerith or Tifa to avoid having Anuran Suppressor target Yuffie. Remember, Radiant Ward only grants damage immunity. You are still susceptible to stuns and disables while casting inside its AoE.
Make sure to finish the fight during the second Stagger phase. Since Yuffie has been casting Thundagas non-stop, you should have another double cast of Thunderous Banishment III by the time the second Stagger rolls around. Pair it with Tifa's True Strike spam to quickly finish off the boss.

A riot control tank developed by the Advanced Weaponry Division. It is equipped with a highly advanced AI support system, allowing the mech to consistently operate at peak performance—so long as its pilot is not completely incompetent. Landing limit attacks or synergy abilities will flip it over. Attacking the cockpit while in this overturned state will deal significant damage. Landing several powerful offensive abilities while Palmer is taunting will pressure it. |
