How to Unlock When Words Won't Do

Complete Friends Together Again

To unlock this quest, you must progress through Chapter 4, defeat Terror of the Deep and sleep at the inn. When you've completed the Friends Together Again main scenario, the quest will be available at the community noticeboard in Under Junon.

How to Complete When Words Won't Do

1. Speak to Rhonda at Under Junon
2. Speak to Salmon Outside the Town
3. Follow Salmon to Crow's Nest
4. Defeat Sandstorm Drakes
5. Reach Crow's Nest to End the Quest

Speak to Rhonda at Under Junon

To begin the quest, speak to Rhonda who is standing outside of the inn. You can also begin the quest by accepting it from the community noticeboard outside the tavern.

Speak to Salmon Outside the Town

Fast travel to Angler's Stowage right at the entrance to Under Junon. A dog called Salmon will be standing right under the fish sign. Talk to Salmon to continue the quest.

Follow Salmon to Crow's Nest

Follow Salmon all the way to Crow's Nest, which is located at the far east side of the Junon Region. You will need to fight several enemies on the way in order for Salmon to pass through safely.

Defeat Sandstorm Drakes

Two Sandstrom Drakes will be your last and most difficult enemies to face before the quest ends. They are weak to wind so equip an Aero materia before battle and hit its weakness.

Be aggressive and try to attack from behind to dispel its aura, thus Pressuring it. You can perform aerial combos as Cloud by dodging then immediately holding attack to launch yourself into the air.

How to Beat Sandstorm Drake

Reach Crow's Nest to End the Quest

Reaching Crow's Nest will automatically end the quest and grant you rewards. Completing this quest will also unlock a new quest at Crow's Nest called The Hardest Sell.

When Words Won't Do Rewards

Access to Crow's Nest

Completing When Words Won't Do will allow you to go to the Crow's Nest in Junon. This location gives access to one of the Phoenix Sanctuaries plus some exclusive Queen's Blood players.

Increase Favorability With Barret

Completing When Words Won't Do will also increase your friendship with Barret. This will affect the events that will occur when you visit the Gold Saucer later in the game.

Sharpshooter's Companion Vol. VIII Dropped by Sandstorm Drakes in Hard Mode

While playing in Hard Mode, defeating the Sandstorm Drakes at the end of the quest will reward you the Sharpshooter's Companion Vol. VIII for Barret. You can access Hard Mode after completing your first playthrough of the game in any difficulty.
